Default 40th Anniversary GT

Just wondering what your thoughts are on FORD/FPV doing a 40th Anniversary GT given that in 1997 it was the 30th.

If they did,
Would it be a limited edition?
What power output and equipment level would it have?
Is there anyone that would know.

Your thoughts would be great.

I would imagen, if they did do a 40th in honor of the XR, it would have to be a limited run, all gold with black stripes (maybe a few silver, like the cigarette company XR's) highly polished chrome wheels, and no spoiler...

but i doubt they would do one around the XRGT... it'd just be different wheels, new colour, and a number on the glove box... thats all "Anniversary" models seem to be now...

..they didn't do anything for the 35th anniversary, can't see why they would bother with the 40th when the GT is now a full time member of the family.

but like someone else said, maybe a new colour, different wheels, special badging and numbering. that's it. ford/fpv are here to make money..

I think they would easily sell 40 gold cars (perhaps use the original colour) with black stripes and chrome wheels, but then again the 50th Golden Anniversary is coming up and maybe it would be more appropriate then to do a full-on cosmetic recreation of the XR GT.

By 2007, the BF will be ageing and the Orion will be a year away. So it may pay to have a limited run - like Holden is doing with the Monaro at the moment

289 cubic inch V8!!! The 4.6 is a 281... give it a slight overbore to take it to 289 cubes (4.7litres). Sell 596 of them. GT Gold only.

I would like to see some homage (is that the word or should I just use respect) to the XR. Make it limited run. I dont see ford using one colour so use the Gold with Black stripes and Silver with red stripes. There will be probably some speacial badgeing.

I think a near-'theorhetical'-GTHO spec GT-P will be on the cards. I'd keep an eye out for a limited run colour and badging power monster.

The actual GTHO will almost certainly turn up in the 2007 Falcon (probably series 2 in mid/late 2008), with similar or better specs that the 40th Anniversary GT-P.

It should be a limited edition BF styled GT coupe with the boss stroked to 5.8 (351), supercharged with a beefed up trans and matching drivetrain including 9' diff.

if the EB and EL efforts are anything to go by they are probably better leaving it alone. Dont get me wrong, I LOVE EL GT's but it's a sad fact that they simply did not really live up to the GT "legend".

Yeah Ford have killed off any special GT's by making GT mainstream.

I agree. Ford didn't really do alot for GT in EB or EL, so if they follow suit, the anniversary would be same as a standard GT.

If Ford were to look at it serious they need to consider some important points.
*Limited run.
*Not like other GT
*based on the V8 supercar
*no auto or leather option
*powerful/strong power train

Basically it needs to be a GT not a Ghia with bodykit!

If it's going to be based on the original, shouldn't it be AM radio, with optional 8 track???

When EB and EL GT's came out, there was no production GT. I think if they are going to do it, it will have to be more than just badging. Slight different kit?? Mild power increase. Even if it just went to 300kw, but then again, that wouldnt be too special considering HSW got 300kw years ago............
