Angry Paintwork damaged by Vic ford dealer.

Hi everyone, I only purchased a brand new Mk 2 2012 XR6, 10 weeks ago in black. When I picked it up you could tell it was cut n polished. After several washes now you can see scuff marks and light scratches where the car was polished. Has anyone else experienced this and what have they done about it. I have taken it back to the dealer and they polished it for me. They are now saying they will polish it again and may take a few days. Not sure what to do about it. They say these marks will appear again.

Silhouette shows more scuff marks than any thing else ...... I am surprised they are polishing it for you the second time? With mine I would just get it done properly at a detailer. Give it time though after some washes they will appear again ..... that's black for you!

The light scratches might have even been caused by your own washing technique. Get a proper detailer to correct it, the dealership apprentice using a tonne of fillers isn't going to fix the problem. Again, if you're not washing it properly you're always going to have paint damage.

I have it washed at magic car wash every time, this last wash was the one where the scuff marks and scratches were more obvious. The car wash guy explained that the car dealer had caused these. There's even scuff marks/scratches on the plastics around the car. Breaks my heart to see these.

Theres your problem. Having it washed by a bunch of minimum wage earning plebs who are just about get it out and get the next one in.

Double there is your problem ........ Scuff aren't the original ones but new ones. They are, as said, plebs doing cleaning cars. If the dealer wants to buff them out for you again .... big congrats but next wash, they will appear again. Get it to a detailer to sort, then wash the car yourself. BUT, black as said, Silhouette will always show everything! The pleasure of owning a black car.

If you're anywhere near Brisbane/Sunshine Coast I can fix it up for you at a low price.

The dealer has probably used a harsh compound and a rotary buffer and caused some marring and swirls, then filled them in with a glaze of sorts. Your washes have simply removed the glaze and revealed the poorly polished surface underneath. It's possible your car wash guy isn't using proper tools or technique either. Most of those bulk car wash places use dirty sponges and chamois on cars. This wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

If you love your car, NEVER use a car wash.

Thanks everyone for the advice, I live in Geelong and this is not my first black car. I had a 2007 escape in black and used the same car wash. Never had any probs but was told by ford rep that it was painted overseas. I also have a 2005 black xr6, same colour and same car wash place but no marks apart from other wear and tear marks. This ford rep mentioned something about them using more clear and less paint. Not sure if he was telling me the truth. Honestly I just want a new car that looks new without scratches. Oh well, I guess I have to detail it more often.

Even when I picked up my new RSpec there were some swirl marks (I have the Black/Red combo) and also signs of buffing. My approach was to just take the car as it was because these things are treatable, the main thing being there were no scratch marks or chips on it.

I did not have any paint treatment done at the dealership and to his eternal credit the FPV rep didn't even introduce me to the "Ming Mole".

I decided to have the Opti-Coat treatment which was done about 5 to 6 weeks ago. Cost was about $700 or so.

I can't speak highly enough of this product and the detailer, Dave Trieu of Reflect-Effect. This is my first Black car and he taught me how to wash "Black" properly. Just after the application he even gave the car a mini-detail while the curing process started.

The advice given above by others is spot on.

It will match the inevitable shopping trolley dints and door hits when you park it in the shopping center car park .

Misleading thread title.....

Hope the detail works well though, it's such an awesome colour when it's mint.
