isnt' this tag a bit like the cobra glove box badges - sure you would like it to all match, but it has nothing to do with identifying the car
if hsv are going to replace this tag on a brand new car with one that matches, where is the problem. who will ever know that the tag in question was replaced . . . . and if there is a way of knowing that it was replaced, then there is no problems with thinking the car is a rebirth because there is already documentation to say that this tag was on that car didn't ford do similar in years gone by with gt's that had engines replaced under warranty, to keep them matching numbers cars . . . . or is that different actually it may be different - the gt with a new engine is no longer a true matching numbers car, and from what i can see this is just a bit of decoration that is different |

on topic, i cannot really see what the issue with the tag is - if it is a critical part of the car's identity, then surely the wrong number is documented somewhere and all is good. if it isn't a critical part of the car's identity, a replacement tag should be fine |

You should also check that the data dots on the vehicle have the correct vin number on them. If the vin from the wrong plate was put on the dots they cant be changed.
