Default Castrol Edge - "Titanium"

So Castrol are about too or may allready have just released their new enhanced range of Castrol Edge motor oils enriched with "so called "Titanium" technology that claims to be 40% stronger and 35% more durable...

See www.castroledge.com.au

What do you think ? Good time to stock up on the existing version when they clear it out on a really good special at Supercheap or Repco or is this new stuff really that much better ?

All that free oil and none of that stuff's any good to put in our vehicles, perfectly good to pollute the environment though

Guys on www.bobistheoilguy.com don't seem to think the new so called titanium version is materially better that the existing version of Castrol Edge.

So if you like that brand of oil and there's a really good bargain to be had as they clear the old stock for the newer version then it would appear to make sense to stock-up a bit IMO. I'll see what's cooking in the labour weekend sales.

I have been using Castrol Edge 5W-30 for the life of my car, i swear it was rated as an "SM" on the specs on the bottle, i don't have an old bottle to check. I just went to buy some to service the car on the weekend, and seems Castol has changed the name to Edge Titanium and put the price up. Looked at the specs of the new Titanium 5W-30 and it's only "SL".

Isn't this a step backwards SM -> SL? Am i paying more for a lower quality oil? Does anyone have an old bottle of the Edge laying around and can confirm if it was indeed rated as SM or if i'm mistaken?

Thanks fo that. The Edge "Titanium" 5W-30 says "This product exceeds API SL/CF, ACEA A3/B4"

I'm not an oil expert, but i thought the further along the alphabet it is, the better it is, is this correct? SN is better than SM which is better than SL?

I did note that all of the other viscosities were either SN or SM.

So Graham where do I buy these magnets? And do they just attach to the oil filter?

Cheers!

I think I have an 8 or 10gb piece of uselessness in my collection of spare computer parts. I might just do that.

Subsequent to starting this thread quite some time ago I've seen some good test results for this new titanium additive Castrol Edge.

They havn't put the price up so it can't be a bad thing and besides i never spotted any ripper specials on the run out of the non-titanium so didn't bother buying up large. Note for diesel vehicle owners fitted with DPF's, the new Titamium enhanced Edge 0W-40 is no longer a low ash oil and is no longer suitable for diesel vehicles fitted with a DPF filter.

I still have a bottle of the old Edge Sport... Can it be safely mixed with the new Titanium?
