I learnt to drive manual in an early model mondeo, i didnt like the look of the car, but was a nice car to drive.

(despite one day the starter motor engaging and some nice electrical smoke coming through the dash)

The mondeo name doesn't need to be changed. Those that know it, know its European, and it was by no means a bad car. So the new one should surely impress above and beyond.

Those that don't know it, well when they see the new one, they see its stylish European design, great looks and great features.

I agree, if they go the Fusion name route they need to advertise the euro sophistication to offset they yank crap image that the average joe has of American iron. But please can we have steel brake rotors rather than the high wear rate cast iron sort that just seems a further opportunity to increase service/maintenance costs, Golf etc frinstance.

I agree with the OP, its a name that should have been left behind. Its a very fresh design, it should have had a fresh name to go with it. Too late now

The general consensus, even of the Ford dealer when I bought mine, is that they're not advertised or pushed enough. I don't know whether its because Ford Australia don't want to take sales away from Falcon or what, but if they advertised these things and pushed some of the features available in them in short tv ads (rather than just include them for 1.5 seconds on a general Ford ad) then I'm sure a lot more people would actually look at them.
If their decision was based around 'not taking sales from Falcon' then they should all be sacked and marched out of the building. I doubt that even Ford Australia's management is that incompetent. This philosophy would only work if a buyer was committed to the brand. Buyers clearly are not committed in general, and will go for the best deal, best shape, best colour etc. I believe the only really committed brand buyers are those who must have a Falcon or Commodore, which is an ever decreasing percentage of buyers. Even those two models are not competitors in the real sense any more, because it's highly unlikely a Falcon fanatic would buy a Commodore and vice versa.

Falcon has lost sales anyway, not to Mondeo, but to the vast number of other options available, irrespective of what Mondeo has done. Would you prefer to lose a sale outright to Mazda or Honda or Subaru or Toyota, or would you prefer to make a sale to your brand?

There must be other factors at play about why the Mondeo can't be marketed or supplied. It's not to save the Falcon.

I'd hate to be charged with product development at any US based auto company....seems like 5 mins ago Kia had no positive image now many people see them as desirable to the extent that they have the cheek to up their pricing to reflect it.
