$85,000 is a lot cheaper than $130,000 but still pretty damn steep, especially for only the "light duty" 1500, only comes with petrol V8s.

How much was the F250/350 when it was being sold new here in Australia from 2001-2006?

That doesn't appear to be factory backed by Dodge/Jeep/Chrysler.

Big Damo..Typo,, Ram 3500 Laramie is $103,990..Longhorn is $3,000k more, Longhorn is the luxury model, leather all the bells and whistles. Dodge USA price is $50,550 plus orc. just over double in price. not bad, when some imports are triple USA pricing...
Using their site, its not factory based, all vehicles are shipped from Longbeach California.
You choose the Ram, shipping etc and its about 12 weeks delivery.

Not anymore. The 1500 also comes with a 3.0L V6 turbo diesel (VM Motori) and 8 speed ZF automatic. 180kw/570Nm.

Starting price was $63,500 up to $79,950 in 2006. By that time, the prices were higher than they were initially around 2002-ish.

I recall Dodge mentioning when the new generation RAM comes out in 2015 they will be considering factory RHD for Australia, but that was like a year or two ago I think.

Factory RHD would be much cheaper than conversion and compliance costs I reckon.

I've got a GMC Sierra which has a RHD conversion done to it by some company in QLD back in 2001, its pretty dodgy.

Is that the new 2013 RAM they are offering?

Go for the 3500 over the 2500. You get an Aisin transmission instead of the 68RFE. 287 kW / 1150 Nm instead of the gutless 276 kW/ 1084 Nm

Yeah they haven't quite shipped yet, but it's not long to wait now. They are a 2014 model.

I think that they need to modify their website a little more to suit the Australian market.

These are not trucks, they are oversized utes. We don’t call utes, trucks here, they do in the USA. In this country when people think of a truck, they think Kenworth, Western Star, Mack etc. It’s a bit like when ol’ Tracey on ACA says that they’re looking for a hit - run truck driver only to find that they are looking for a bloody F100.

I’m sure that they will find a place here, however, there are already quite a few people who convert these things here already. When you drive past the place in Traralgon that sells these things, Victorian American Imports, their yard is absolutely full of them. There are also places like Harrison’s who specialises in Ford and then there’s GMC Australia.

I’m not sure how many of these companies could really survive in such a small market. There would be many local US dealers who would sell more of these things in a month than are sold in an entire year in this whole country.

There are a lot of 2001-2006 F250/350 getting around my country town, and one new Chevy Silverado but considering the price, no chance in hell.

I'd go for a new 2500/3500 if it was in the $60-$70K bracket for sure, for the locally delivered ones if it goes ahead.

Perhaps they use the word truck as a marketing gimmick? Don't they call the new Holden ute (Colorado?) a truck in their add?

Not a huge fan of the look of the Dodge Ram. Hopefully Ford follow suit with the F Truck and Chevy bring in the Silverado and Duramax. Wishful thinking. Wouldn't turn down a 3500 though, love a Dually.

As for the Truck terminology, you cant really call these things 'utes' their bigger than some people's houses. Most people know the difference between an Aussie ute and a Yank Truck.

Go spend some time on some of the Aussie 4x4 forums, the reference to "my truck" "his truck" "her truck" "there truck" "show us ya truck" "hardcore trucks" etc. is pretty much the standard language these days........

Just to be clear. These are still imported lhd models converted in Australia. The 1500. Is listed at starting at 95000 on their site.
There have been a number of announcement from Chrysler that indicate they may have a factory Rod version next year.
With a similar Price structure to their jeeps and300c - ie only about 15000 more than the US which will be a lot more attractive. Think 50 hand for a1500
That is what I an waiting for

So now not only will the cities be full of Toorak tractors (4x4s for the new gen) that don't see the dirt but we will be pushed out by over sized utes that don't do anything ....

While driving around Vegas, we heard the local Ford dealer offering F150's starting at just under twenty. Dodge Rams..."double cab" 1500's...started at twenty or so.

The hysteria and frankly stupid arguments against being allowed to drive brand new LHD vehicles in means we get beaten savagely around the head when it comes to accessing great vehicles.
Look...let anyone who wants to, drive one...if you are afraid of the idea, or don't want to, then don't buy one[/i]. Simple.
The excuse about not being able to see anything is wrong when it comes to Rams, Silverados, and big Ford trucks...you tower over the traffic.

Of course, if people could buy a brand new LHD Dodge Ram twin cab for, say, under thirty or forty grand, who'd ever buy a Commodore or Falcon as a big family vehicle?

Time to grow up Australia...free things up and let people who wish to do so choose to buy brand new LHD Yank stuff if that's what they want. I admit it would really hurt the local industry...after seeing ranks of battered 300C's being used as Taxis and ordinary family cars but which are sold as prestige luxury vehicles here, you realise that.

I told a dealer over there that Dodge Rams sold in Australia for around a hundred grand, and he honestly laughed and thought I was joking...

Harleys must also be more expensive here due to them being converted to right hand drive

Not only that, I’m pretty sure that they use HFO-1234yf as a refrigerant gas in the aircon systems over there. The Harley dealer would have to change it to R134a to meet the required ADR. All of this adds a substantial amount to the cost of new Harleys in this country, not to mention the RHD ashtrays.

Motorcyclists have for years complained about this...I mean, making them legal for RHD roads from a LHD production country merely means a different headlight lens so it dips to the left instead of the right. There's imply no justification for the massive differences in price.

Seriously who would buy Hilux if you could get F series, Chevy/GMC HD series and RAM HD for around similar prices?

My GMC Sierra is hell nice to drive and its the dodgy one out of the big three around that time with the crappiest diesel engine designed for fuel economy not power and torque which dates back to 1982.

The local fish and chip shop owner here has a nice 2001-2006 F250 on big chrome wheels, but it has the toy engine under the hood (5.4 Triton)

Wouldn't it also need to be upside down? Southern Hemisphere and all?

Overpricing Harleys seems like a good thing, hopefully stops a few people buying them and forces them to buy a good bike instead.
