New Fiesta ST or Second Hand FG XR6T

If you had a choice, in a new Fiesta ST or a second hand FG xr6 turbo (fully optioned) Which would you pick and why?

Two different types of vehicle.
It depends on what is required out of the car.

XR6T is a nice car with a ton of power.
For me personally I don't need a large sedan so I would go with the Fiesta, world class dynamics that can shame many more expensive cars.

2 different categories, it all depends what your intended use is? On one hand you have a small run about with style, features and a little bit of go, on the other hand you have a large car that will fit the family comfortably, use more fuel but will hold its own against most other cars on the roads.
For me personally the FG is the way do go considering a small car will do no good.

Totally depends on what you plan to do with it. Is this your only car (partner has another car)? Do you plan to modify it, do you have a family, commute to the city etc...

If someone offered me a set of keys and said take one your choice, I'd lean toward the Fiesta, wife already has a Family Falcon, and a quick small nimble car is more fun to drive to and from work for me (my Mazda has opened my eyes to owning a car they weighs less than 2 tonnes). If this to be my only car that I plan on keeping for a while the XR6T would be my choice ( I physically cannot stop myself modifying any car I own in some way, and Falcon is cheap to modify and responds very well to it along with relatively cheap to maintain). Too many factors to give proper advise, both are great in very different ways, depends on what suits you better at your current point in life.

One is a large, comfortable and powerful rwd sedan while the other is a tiny little glorified fwd buzzbox. I can't believe you would even need to ask the question.

Both are good cars. Fullstop.

But if you are asking the question then you need the room? If not, then get the ST.

The Falcon is a far more practical car and covers more basis. If your looking for A-B then go the ST.

if you only drive to the shops get the Fiesta, but you can put your high heels under the passenger seat.....thats a plus!

drive both and consider why you want either car

I sold my AU3 XR8 for a stock Fiesta and now i'd go back to the XR8 in a heartbeat, the Fiesta is fun but the XR8 suited my lifestyle better and is more comfortable

Pros ST- rego, fuel, resale, whole lot of fun, Cons- 3 doors

Pros XR- room, 4 doors, boot, best 6 in the world, fun! Cons- rego, fuel, resale

Silver Ghia is on the money ha-ha.

Nah misses loves driving the FG... but we want a house, which atm is somewhat more important... cant live in your car. BUT i also love my FG - and obviously an ST would set me back even more $$$ with the FG as a trade in.

Guess i am just seeing whats out there really. I would miss the power of the FG, but maybe house is better... for now?

It it were a Focus ST against the XR6T I reckon the Focus would be the choice. But against the Fiesta, the FG wins.

Ahh, so this is the reason...

Keep the FG. You have done all the necessary mods to keep it running trouble free for quite a while, so to be sensible its best not to spend more buying another car when you can put it toward the new house.

If the Fiesta ST was available as a 4 door I would trade my FG XR6T for one.

The ST would be a bucket-load more fun to drive around inner city and typical suburb roads and traffic and it is no slouch either.

The XR6T is big and has loads of power. Unfortunately build quality leaves a lot to be desired and spoils an otherwise good all round car IMO.

I would buy the XR6 Turbo and option a haymen reese towbar. Then I would buy a trailor and a fiesta ST, take it to a race track and flog the **** out of it.

ST for me, i have a focus ST, have driven an FG XT6T, they have more than enough grunt for everyday use, depends on your needs.

If you want to save a buk on fuel and don't need the big henry theres probably only one choice,
for me personally I like big cars, like having a bit more sheetmetal around me, like having a bit more towing capacity, but its not me, .............. you have to decide what "you" want out of the car.

But in a family position the FG is the smarter choice...size and superior safety.

Try to picture the whole family with the baby stuff in the ST...nahhhhh

If I had the choice...

It would depend on what I wanted out of the car. If I wanted pure power, enough to scare me each time I wanted to bury the throttle, I'd be getting a 6T and modding it appropriately.

If I wanted a car I could enjoy rowing through the gears, with enough power to shock a lot of people that also handles like a go kart, I'd get the Fiesta.

Normally I would say choose the ST (but then I'm biased towards small FWD's), but even with some of the "sensible" arguments in favour of the XR6T, I'd say choose that as well.

A lot of the depreciation hit would already be extracted from it, you presumably still enjoy it, have options if you happen to "upsize" your family, and more cash to put towards your home. Buying a home is a better investment of your purchasing power than any car (no matter how much pleasure returns you get from it).

I'm lucky enough to own my home, so now I have more money for play-things. Somehow, though, I can't bring myself to spend big-time on a car. Maybe not enough of a car enthusiast?

The OP has probably already copped a big depreciation on the FG, the Fiesta would hold its value better. I feel more comfortable in a full size car, plus the turbo goes like a bat out of hell, so I'd sell the Fiesta.
