Default Anyone had a Discectomy?

Anyone on here had a discectomy?

I will be having one in the near future as I have tried most other options for disc bulge/siatica.

Just want to hear from anyone who has had one, Cheers

I feel your pain. I herniated a disc about 6 years ago. A discectomy was one of my options and I came very close. Glad I didn't have it. Took me about 2 years to recover to a managable point. I will PM you my phone number and we can have a chat if you wish, easier than this.

I've been living with nerve pain for 10 years. Has got progressively worse the last couple years, especially the last 6 months.

Caused my incorrect lifting during work experience in high school when I was 17-18.

Yes mine started in high school when I was around 15 playing footy. Was bulging for many years before it finally herniated. A nasty business. Can put you in a very bad place.

Had the discectomy as well as a laminectomy on L3/4 (grinding out the nerve pathway through the bone).

This was done about 15 years ago and was very successful. Done at St George private (Sydney).

Note: The milogram done prior to surgery was very painful.
You must exercise, I used to swim a couple of Ks on workday mornings.
You will still get pain but not like it is now.
Just take the Panadienne Forte they give you, after a while it will
work, you don't need anything stronger

Note my surgery was 15 years ago - things may have changed. They might use keyhole if your lucky. Mine wasn't and I have a 100mm vertical scar in my back. For the next year, it was that incision that gave me the most trouble, its very slow to heal.

Myelogram - see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myelography

Panadeine Forte - chances are you didn't give it sufficient time. I got pethadine on a pump for about 24 hrs after the surgery then after that all I got was panadeine forte. It will take about a day for this to kick in and later if you stop the dosage then you will realise that it really is working. Its the codeine in forte that does the work but codeine is addictive which is why you get very little in the form of a Panadeine forte capsule.

Nah, I've taken Forte for other things in the past for a short period of time, didn't effect my nerve pain in the slightest.

I just put up with the pain.

Unless you are referring to using Forte after surgery?
