Stat write offs can be repaired and registered, you just have to jump through a few hoops to do it.

From the RMS website.... All NSW light vehicles written-off from 1 February 2011, are classified as statutory (non-repairable) write-offs and cannot be registered unless the vehicle meets certain requirements. http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/registrati...mary_final.pdf

An F350 isnt going to meet NSW's strict repairable criteria.
It has to be something rare, limited and collectable. Pretty sure you must have owned it for atleast 12 months prior to it being written off also.

Its a bit too expensive for engine/box especially 2nd hand stuff.
The only thing I could see that being used for is someone with a 5.4 F250 wanting to convert to diesel. Check out the prices from USA for a crate 7.3 or full reco, under $10K. http://swampsdiesel.com/prestashop/e...e-rebuild.html |

Have you actually looked into the criteria you need to meet? The categories are: *Hail Damage *You owned it before the accident *Inherited vehicle (I assumed this would be a person getting XXXXX's special car after XXXXX killed themself in it) *Motorsport Vehicle - Applications for exemptions under this category may be considered in combination with controlled, conditional registration |

It can be re-registered if you owned it before it became a write off and can then jump through all the RMS hoops. http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/registrati...s_1_oct_10.pdf "Limited applications to repair and register will be considered on a case-by-case basis. The registered vehicle operator (or owner if it's not registered) can apply to the RTA for authorisation to repair if the vehicle is: • in an exempt vehicle category, • kept by the same registered operator or owner, and • able to be repaired to legislated standard"

Have been told by Insurance Company that over a certain age, write-off restrictions don't apply - would like to confirm this with authorities, all the same.
