Default After some info on 67 Camaro build numbers.

Just out of curiosity a pay TV show I was watching GAS MONKEY Richard bought two 67 Camaro's one was a normal coupe and the other was a convertible.He claimed in the show that the cars were no 1 and no 2.I don't know anything about production numbers but was a bit bewildered that the cars could be no 1 and no 2.Was thinking that the would have rolled down two separate production lines.Don't really know.
Anyone shed some light on weather they really are 1 and 2.

The article refers to Pontiac Firebirds .. much more desirable than a Camaro!

As the sequence numbers refer to "production" builds (not pre-production or pilots) its likely he could have the first of each?

BTW: A quick google tells me '67 Firebirds had two separate sequence numbers for coupes and 'verts (eg. coupe will be ..001 and vert will be ..001) so not sure where he got the 1-and-2 from? Build dates?

Those two cars were built pre production by Pontiac but were given build numbers sequentially 1 and 2. What is unusual about that is that back then GM didn't usually comply a show vehicle for road use by giving it a VIN but in this case they did. Even more unusual is that they didn't end up staying in GM's hands and stored at the GM museum as most of GMs auto show cars did at the time and still do now. Pontiac used them through 1966 to showcase the release of the all new firebird in 1967. Once production started all cars were assigned their build numbers from 2 onwards as per however Pontiac numbered their coupes and convertibles.

The Firebird and Camaro were built off the same platform just with minor sheet metal and drivetrain differences. The firebird was built out of two plants, being Norwood and Lordstown in Ohio and the Camaro was built out of two plants, Van Nuys in California and Norwood in Ohio. They both used the GM F body platform.

Useless bit of trivia but The Americans can get away with not assigning a car a VIN but still using it for road use and press use as they can register it with manufacturer plates. Once finished with the vehicle it must be destroyed but while assigned these plates it can be used as per normal.

In regard to the Gas Monkey episode the OP referred to, did anyone notice the cars used in the race driver training sequence were the Commodores rebadged as Pontiacs
