Still I have never seen any of my cars on a hoist for rego pink slip inspections.

I will be going for a pink slip in about 3-4 weeks time, and will see if it goes on a hoist.

I agree with others that there is a lot to be said for how a vehicle looks and if the inspector knows the vehicle but I also believe cost versus timeframe has a lot to do with pushing the inspection through as quickly as possible.

I’ve been using the same two inspectors for years but I can’t really say I know them.
Most of the work done on my older cars is either performed by me or I take them to mechanics that specialise in a particular problem, so the inspectors don’t really get my patronage.

I will admit years ago when I was more involved in cars as a social thing I had friends who would inspect them.
They knew the cars and I didn’t even need to take them to the workshop, just front up with the rego papers, they’d use whatever was around for a brake test, I’d pay the fee, have a few beers, talk **** then head back home.

The first thing i do when i buy a car, is have my mechanic check it over.
XF s-pac, found the clutch plate was just about gone...dealer fixed it

EL ghia, head had a slight leak, dealer fixed it

AU xr6, found the rotors and brakes were on their way out, fixed, private sale went halves on it.

All was done within a week so i couldnt be blamed for the cause.

Cars do wear out with km driven, But for some people km is a phychological barrier, like being scared of heights or living out west. For them it's "I'm not driving a car with more than 100,000km" or for some 200,000km is that barrier

I do ALL my mechanical work, have not had a car in a workshop for repairs or servicing for about 20 years (unless it was a new warranty service), as soon as warranty runs out I take over.

So the only time mechanic sees my car is for pink slip.

I threw this thread on a hoist. Close inspection found a deficient turbo making too much ego boost. A frayed seat belt due to a puffed out chest and the sound of a voice talking from out it's exhaust.

Conclusion: Thread has too much mileage for it's condition and is far from a "mint example".
