Of course it probably is,but I want to reverse the black letters and white background of my B&W NSW Number plates.Given that in most states there is a huge amount of options for custom plates, would the highway patrol really know that I did it myself ( A1 job,of course ! ) opinions appreciated ,thanks

The Black Plates with white lettering colours are reversed under camera flashes.

Great point,of course, they're reflective. When it comes down to it,it is only the front that is important, its not for my FG T ,its on the missus's Audi quattro with which I play !! I'm blacking the grille and any other bits of chrome I can find, and the white background plates just wont cut the mustard. Most speed cameras are set to catch the rear ? Yes ?

I'm not sure what the HP use for Number Plate Recognition but it would be risky. Why not just get the ones you want from the RMS ?

You're assuming I speed Haha sometimes, but given I have a total of 480 flywheel in 2 cars to drive,I've been lucky, not booked for 10 years on arguably the most dangerous highway in oz ( Pacific,of course ) ! ,but yes all the highway patrol were recently equipped with the latest plate recognition equipment up here and how that reads plates is anybodies guess...

Painting a number plate would come under the number plate being defaced. Not sure what fine or punishment would be.
http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/roads/regi...es-labels.html It is an offence for drivers and registered operators of vehicles if its number plates are not fitted properly, obscured, defaced or otherwise not legible. |

Don't do it. $700 fine for defaced numberplates. I got some overspray on a numberplate once. Wiped it with thinners. Took the old QLD green and white off the plate. Repainted it by hand. Nek minute busted.

I would be concerned that in the event of an accident your insurance might not cough up because the car is fitted with false plates. Even though the number is correct they might still be illegal, imagine some smarty saying he ran into the back of your car because he was staring at the plate because it looked wrong. Stranger things have happened, just pay the money, get it done properly and save the grief.

There are ways around the system to keep in mind, i have 4 different sets of plates for my car, which didn't cost a thing. In SA when you buy custom plates, the yearly fee included making the plates. All you do is let them lapse, and reorder the plates again for the next year, and they send you the new colours ;)

In QLD you buy personalised plates for a one off fee. And supposedly own them for life. But if you restyle, you have to hand the old design back.

That is a risk, but worked 4 times. The only time they got 'stolen' was when i forgot about them for about 3 months. Just a lucky check on the site i guess.
