Battery change in key fob (XR5 version) has resulted in total loss of programming in key fob. Unable to lock car with either key fob or door buttons.
Still starts OK when key fob inside car. Dealer says BOTH key fobs need to be reprogrammed by plugging the car/fobs into their computer (ETIS?). Both because they are on a paired frequency arrangement thingy. Do 1 only and the other stops working. Marvellous.... Dealer says this happens 'sometimes'....&*^#$&*#^$ technology. |

Strange, We've replaced the batteries in our XR5 Mondeo's key fobs a few times now.
First time, we replaced both at the same time, second time only one fob, third time both again....they do seem to suck the batteries dry. At no time did we have any issues afterwards. No pairing/reprogramming needed. Only time we've ever had issues is when they were getting down in charge.

Thats very strange. I have replaced the batteries in both keyfobs many times (eBay batteries). Never had a reprogramming issue come up, but mine is a MA XR5.
When you say Door buttons, I presume you have a newer model with proximity lock/unlocking? I guess there's another dealership tax built into the newer technology...

Yep, MB XR5 with the proximity unlocking, global open/close incl sunroof, press buttons in door handle and near boot to lock the car....none of which works with my key. Currently using wifes key, which is also needing a keyfob battery change.

very strange,
I changed mine a few times now and never had to reprogram anything. buy them at Woolies, cost me $9 in the right spec for two. they last about 9-12 mths but atleast the car is smart enough to tell you when it needs a new battery LOL

Batteries cost $5 for Everready Energizer pair.
I supplied the batteries, dealer changed them. First key now deemed broken as not holding program - was fine when handed over for simple battery change. Replacement key on order under warranty (no arguments thankfully). Second key working fine with replacement battery. And then we program the 2 keys and car for a third time ....and see what happens. Hopefully resolved this week. The original keyfob batteries have lasted nearly 3 years, so may not have to do this exercise again in my ownership lifetime. |

This post prompted me to change the batteries in both my key fobs.
Although not like Titanium / XR5 Turbo, it was areally easy thing to do! Just required two (2) CR2032 Batteries, flip key out and pop of the Ford Logo / Emblem...Easily done!

The XR5 keyfobs are a B**** to get into. I did try a couple of times, but didn't want to destroy the keyfob.
New key should have arrived at dealers on Thurs, so now lined up for Wed for next attempt. (The predecessor Subaru keys had a single phillips head screw, and took < 3 mins to change the battery....ho hum...) |

Seems our UK brothers have had similar issues: http://www.talkford.com/topic/127043...y-replacement/

My remote on a MA TDCi just died and I assumed that it was just a battery issue so I put in the battery out of our kitchen scales which just happens to be the same. Still nothing. I tried the reprogramming trick on another thread. Still nothing. So I bought a new battery and put that in and you guessed it, still nothing. Wife's remote still works ok so I am thinking mine has just bitten the dust.

MB XR5 3-button + proximity locking
New keyfob delivered today, and was re-programmed alongside the old functional fob and the car. Both seem to work OK today. Will see what happens tomorrow (one died the day after re-programming despite new battery). Third time lucky? |

Delivered by dealer under warranty.
I asked them to show me how to change the battery....and then it stopped working. Worked perfectly beforehand, apart from that "Key Battery Low" message. |

I have tried prising gently with a screwdriver around the edges of the logo side of the key but I don't want to break anything. Is there a trick or do I need to use a little more force? (MC LX flip out key - not keyless fob) Cheers George

Cool just had the missus grab some batts and swapped them over MB Zetec. Both still work in the car, Global Opening and Closing still work. If anything just glad they're not unknown.

lol after opening it I can see why the seal is the thickest I've seen as far as remote fobs go, Toyotas by far are the thinnest of a few I've opened.

Closest was one showing two holes. (Mine in the picture here has just the one hole) Manual says... "Insert a screwdriver as far as possible into the slot on the side of the remote control, push it toward the key blade and remove the key blade." Tried that but afraid anymore force will break something. Help Please

Is yours a MC? The photo looks quite different to mine, which has the 2 holes.

On prising open, I don't have one with me at the moment, but from memory, it took a bit of fiddling. Follow the instructions in the manual. You need a narrow screw-driver and a bit of force. Good luck.

The battery was still above 3V, but it certainly didn't have the range as when it was new.

OK, Sorry, I have the "keyless" key (Proximity fob), but the remote part looks quite similar.
In my case, you remove the "Ford" embossed cover, by sliding then lifting, and the slot to separate the remote is inside the covered section. Can't remember which direction the cover comes off, but the manual should show that much, at least!!
