Aka The Ming Mole
Is there a more thankless job? I actually felt sorry for the poor girl. Normally I would be inclined to just cut her off, but she seemed so genuine, trying to trot out the lines she'd memorised. So I politely smiled through all the piffle. But its weird, its like they don't even try to be serious with this muck. I reckon if they were offering some decent paint and fabric protection package for say $500, they'd actually get quite a few people. Especially if they kept the BS to a minimum. But I think it was something like $1,600. Obviously they'd happily sell it for probably half that, but still.

I would imagine Crazy Daz just purchased a new car and had the pleasure of being trotted over to the woman who deals with the paint and fabric protection, accessories etc etc. Often referred to in the trade as 'ming mole'.

I specifically requested that I didn't want to be offered paint protection but they still tried to push it on.

Is this the same as the finance woman who kept pushing me into finance when I had 100% of the purchase price?

Ive had horrible dealings with these irritating people... I get its their job and all that but they are so overly pushy and then when you tell them know.. get bloody rude...
The one at Mazda who, once I told her I didn't want her tint/protectant package, called me an idiot because I got some friends of mine who own a tinting company to do it at mates rates with better quality products... Or the one at Honda who, after we said no for the same reason as above (and the demo already had tint) went behind my back and called my wife at work and conned her into the package.... And they wonder why they have such a bad name...

you do know you can refuse to see the aftermarket Ming Mole right ?
You can also refuse to see the finance guys too. If the sales guy / sales manager won't take your deposit just walk out. It really is that simple. If you need an easy "get out" say you work in the industry and they'll usually leave you alone |

When buying some sort of electronics for $1500 I told them I have cash. He asked me 2 or 3 times if I want to rent it. Yeah mate I want to pay $3000 then have to hand it back after 3 years. My sister used to be a Ming mole. She earned commission on everyone who signed up. No wonder they are so sad when you say no to them. |

Had the pleasure a week or so ago.
Told her I was pushed for time and to leave a brochure with the prices attached. She did and promised to follow up by phone in a day or two. She rang, I said "not interested, thanks" (I actually read the brochure) and that was that.

Always ask to see how the protection is holding up on their own private car in the car park.

I had to urbandictionary it...
"Ming Mole An attractive young female, dress strategically to expose or highlight her ample cleavage, within a car dealership. Their job is to primarily target the male dominated market, selling additional extras on top of the sale of the vehicle such as paint/fabric protection, tinted windows, gadgets and/or electronic rust protection - usually at a higher price that what is available on the market. The term is a combination of two words: "MING" being the original brand of protection products, and "mole", a derogatory Australian term associated with females of poor social conduct, or questionable sexual promiscuity." |

Is it bad to admit that years ago I actually nailed one of the Ming Moles?
Still didn't buy the gear though.

I am trying to exercise more patience as I get older, plus the Sales Manager did do us the best deal in town. Plus I have time to burn, so I just smiled sweetly and nodded.
We were getting our tint through the dealer anyway. I figure that at best, If I shop around and haggle, Tint-a-car would give it to me at the trade-rate, at best. So if I could convince the dealer to charge no, or minimal, mark-up. Its worth it. I could have got it cheaper than tint-a-car, but now with such long warranties, its better to stick with somebody you know will be around. The "finance dude" was a total idiot. Good thing we didn't need finance. I had to keep asking for their bank details, and he seemed really puzzled that we wanted to pay that way. Then when the payment was made, he couldn't find it. Bit of an annoyance, but all good in the end. Daughter is stoked with the car.

But who actually buys this rubbish?
If they tried to sell worthwhile extras, at not too inflated prices, they could probably flog quite a few things. But $1,000 for somebody to polish the car?

She had excellent beading properties, clean lines and very good proportions.

A lot of people surprisingly. Back when I was working at the dealer rarely did we deliver a car that didn't have an extra on it. Mostly tint but quite a few paint protections too.
