I gave up smoking after 16 years. This was in 2001. been smoking since I was 15. 30 to 40 a day.
Smoking is bad for you. Smokers feel they have the right to smoke where they want. Why care about the guy who doesn't smoke for obviuous reasons. And how about children being subjected to second hand smoke by their parents. In Canberra, in the dead of winter at -8, you see parents in their cars with a back seat full of children, windows up, smoking a cigarette. You may choose to do yourself harm, but inflict it on yourself and don't expect others to as well. You make those choices to smoke. Just don't inflict it upon other people. Well before you start, I still enjoy the smell. I head down with the smokers when they have their ciggy break. Yeah my choice. But whose choice is it for a 5 year old or a baby, who doesn't know the evils of smoking. And how about pregnant women. Look at the crap they are pumping into the system of a new born. My reasons for giving up, and that for Julie, was for no other reason that our child. She quit after she found out she was pregnant. Is there something wrong with wanting to have a smoke free environment for your children? Understand that these are real issues. Not a case of the world out to get the smoker and violate their rights. How about the rights of the non smoker who has no choice but to cop 2nd hand smoke. Yeah how about those people who work in pubs and clubs. Maybe they should get a new job. Finding a job is far easy than telling the smoker to go outside. I don't care if you smoke. Your choice. But don't make us have to take your 2nd hand smoke. remember, its your choice, not ours. I've been in the smokers situation before. I didn't like the criticisms. But I just dealt with it. So whinge and complain about the violation of your rights, but you know how bad it is. Just deal with it and kick the habit. |

Im not getting hot headed , and i have nothing against non smokers and to their considerations , but it would be nice if non smokers would have consideration to us too in the same way - we may smoke - smokers or non smokers - we all have equal rights. And to people who think cigarettes are the be all end all, wake up and realize the air you breath everyday with or without a smoker around , its full of crap, and in reality you standing around a smoker smoking a full smoke is no worse than u standing next to a car idleing for a few seconds !! .....

And i think any sensible person - smoker or non smoker - would agree that smoking around young children is stupid (not that i condone smoking or choking out any non smokers as i mentioned be4 ), not just for the fact of heatlh reasons , but they do what they see , as much as i love my cigarettes i go about it sensibly around others , and thats why it buggs me when others have no consideration for me , makes you "think why bother, if u dont care how i feel about it then i dont care how you feel about it " . Its a 2 way thing , yet everyone jumps on the governments back to ban whatever they can to do with smoking .

Well as of tomorrow I'm taking up smoking. I drive a car and live in the city, so apparently my health will be no worse off if I start sucking on nail polish remover, house paint and god knows what.
To the smokers whinging, boo frickety woo. You can't light up at a bus stop? Walk 10 metres away. Just remember your oxygen bottle. |

Smoking should be banned full stop if you ask me, I'll tell you now, if I was at a bus stop and I rocked up there after someone was allready there, and they happened to be smoking and blew it in my face, I'd shove the ciggerete down their throat as well as my fist, grow up to yourself, go blow your crap somewhere else, I was walking into Target the other day and I almost got into a fight with a guy because of this exact senario, he was standing out the front of the door and as I walked past he blew out and with the wind it blew directly into my face, I stopped and told him to F@$K off, but he did say sorry to me and then moved to the other side off the road, car's don't have the same affect as inhalling smoke mate, if you want to smoke F$@k off and do it somewhere where it won't affect other's that don't smoke, have some consideration.

I stopped smoking in December so I have been on both sides of the fence.
Firstly. The argument that it is a dirty habbit by a non smoker living in a city in a bit hypocritical. A friend of mine is a mautician and performs autosies. I have seen inside smoker and non smokers lungs. You cant telkl the differerence. Admittitadley the smoker was about 30 and the non smoker was about 40. The 2nd smoke issue. Its your choice to smoke so dont force it on anyone. Move to the smoking section of the pub or go outside. Star city Casino will be 100% smoke free in July. For none smokers speak up. Tell the smoker that you dont enjoy second hand smoke, tell them politely, dont start jumping up and down and swear at him. You willl get on where that way. As for smoking in your privacy as in your own car, house, boat, what ever you own. Thats fine. Thirdly. The new advertisment for ciggi packs are being printed this week and will hit the shelves in the next few weeks. Do we need a scare campaine to get a desired result. A result that you desire but not some else. I forsee. Ciggi packs with labels, but comes with metal tins. To put your ciggis in so you dont look. The price of ciggis is real expensive and the great majority of that goes to the govt. So everyone lobbying to get tobacco production to halt. It will not happen. Tobacconists sell Winfield Ciggaretts and make a 40c profit. Thats right only 40c. B & H is 30c. There is no money left in the industry. Only mass production can save it and that is what they have to do. A friend of mine has cancer through her body due to genetics and smoking. And she is on her deathbed.
