On the same boat as you (: Save I've had mine since Thursday, I guess what gives me relief from a sore throat; dad makes hot water plus honey, it's an awesome drink and it helps the throat.

But other than that, how about those cold and flu tablets? Must be a reason why there's only enough for 3 days :p

1000mg per day of vitamin C, echinacea tablets, and zinc tablets. All these are natural and will help your immune system in recovering from a cold. I also found a mouth wash that was really good a while ago when I had a sore throat, it was from Bedadine (spelling??) they make creams for cuts as well but this stuff was really good! (just tastes like crap though!)

Johnnie Walker Black and just drink it out.

Seriously, you have to allow yourself to be sick as all tablets like codral etc do is mask the symptoms. Taking these tablets gets rid of the runny nose and headcold, but can stop you from coughing. This may all sound great but if you do not allow yourself to cough up phlegm it can lead to pneumonia, and other complications.

Perhaps go to your chemist and get some benadryl expectorant or even duro tuss; this will turn a dry cough into a producing cough, which tends to mark the end of the sore throat, and begins to settle the whole ailment down.

I can vouch for all of those remedies. And that Betadine does taste like crap (understatement), although it works very well.

Keep breathing warm air. It is the temperature of the air that you breathe that helps you heal faster and prevents you getting sicker. Doesnt matter if your body is warm if you are breathing cold air. Lots of people think they are ok if they rug up...

Basically as everyone said, keep warm, rest (let your body fight it) and keep drinking. Dont take cough suppressants (as someone said) as you dont want to suppress your coughing - you have to get it all out to prevent infections.

Colds are viruses and you cant do anything about it really, have to let your body fight it. Just watch for signs of infection (ie bacteria), which you can then get antibiotics for from the doc if it gets back. Cold viruses can often bring about secondary bacterial infections (bronchii, trachea, throat, sinuses).

Hope you get well soon mate.

Doctors will tell you that cold and flu tablets are largely pointless. Panadol and drinking water will do much the same thing and perhaps a cough expectorant. And much cheaper too.

That's it! And if you don't care what people think, shove tissues up your nose to keep the cold air out.

I've always been one to believe, that for something like a cold, git your arrse out of bed in the morning, get up, go to work, move around, be happy, and keep active. Really, it's not going to hurt you or get any worse.....

You'll probably feel worse if you spend the day in bed, sniffing and moaning, and feeling depressed, dwelling on the fact your sick.

Caarn, be a man : : :

i usually find, b1tching and moaning helps me the most.... ;)

(keeping warm - seems to be against the grain here, bowl of boiling water in pot with eucalyptus oil for runny noses, best sore throat lozengers are eucalyputs ones, or the eucalypyus with honey like $2 a bag, sleeping and watching dvd's + days of work)

Sore throat - I swear by Strepsils and Betadine. Works well.

Cold/Flu - buy 'Ease-a-cold' from the supermarket. It's not drugs, it's a largely natural remedy. Every time we've had colds/flus in the family, we've started taking them, and the length and severity of the cold/flu is greatly reduced. This stuff is way under-rated.

I drink tea as hot as I can with no milk. 2 squashed limes, 1/2 teaspoon of honey, 1/4 teaspoon ginger...Hot so it cleans the back of your throat...
