Ok now before somebody starts an argument about what a "performance" car is - shut it.

Main reason they use the XR's and SS's is because they're morepowerful. Its a no brainer that a cop in an XT Falcon isnt going to be able to keep up with somebody in an SS if he's chasing them. Got to be able to match whatever is on the street, as well as be able to easily accquire, service and sell the vehicles once theyve done their time as cop cars. Hence why SS's and XR's are the choice.

Not sure if it was undercover but two cops where in it! VY/VZ Clubsport, sounded very nice too.

just sayin what i thought, i dont feel strongly enough about it to argue.

those are some good points there but when do the cops actually "catch" someone that doesnt want to stop by chasing behind them? if it were a high powered car that were evading them then they simply call a road block or use air support etc. u can outrun a car but not a radio. thats y i see the SS/XR etc as extra spending that good perhaps be put into something else like more police perhaps?

thoughts on that?

Newcastle has two new ones based at Waratah.

Spied them today.

Black XR8 MKII with black non see through tint.

Lights , camera and radar on the back parcel shelf.

lights and camera on the front dash.

19in wheels, BA GT Silver stripes and Boss 260 decals.

, the other one is the same only its a 6ltr SS. with Leather seats.

why the need to waste our tax money on silly ИИИИ like this. spend money on driver training. but like i keep saying cause and effect.

Does any body in the know, like any cops on here or mechanics who service them, know what engines they are running. Could they be runnnig GT engines or the like?????
Back in the Good old days they use to trick up the cop engines (XA i think it was had the spare XY Phase 4 engines), EL 6's have the XR6 Engine, and currently QLD Police now have 6 or so Red Monaros which are aparently extra extra tricked up (Have heard rumours of Capa Superchargers under the hood, dont know about that but i do know they have been tinkled with).

:yeees: These days cops are just revenue collection officers, hiding and being sneaky, a lot like the criminals they used to catch.

Looks like theres no money in catching murderers or kidnappers.

We pay their wages, through our taxes, and now fines too. They're our employees.

The only service we recieve is them booking us for speeding,

man there is no need for that coment. the cops do what they can and they only give tickets to ppl that break the law on the road. sometimes they can be a bit harsh but they don't do it for fun.

Mate ridiculous attitude you have there

It's a pity you dont realise the good work that they do, I somehow get the feeling you have had dramas with the law and feel as though you have been hard done by. These police have a job to do, picking people up for speeding may not be necessarily their decision, they are instructed to do so in their job description.

As for your last comment, thats being deleted as it's about as pathetic as your attitude towards this. There are police on this site, some of us have very close relatives who are in the force and are honest, hard working people that could one day get you out of the ИИИИ one day

Sorry, lost a mate due to fatal injuries sustained in a fight, in front of the police, recently. Thanks for editing that one, I was here to do it myself.

Went too far,

I agree with above, not enough is being done on *serious* and major crime, but the easier motorist targets come under the spotlight time and time again.

Also, someone here said if you drive at the speed limit your fine, not true so it would seem.

Victoria has seen at least half a dozen fines sent out incorrectly causing inconvenience and distress, job losses etc due to those fines only to be told they were mistakes, can all the people who say if you don't speed your fine give comment?

As for police using old cars for traffic duties, that will not happen, however for other purposes it will Speed camera cars in XD's? Very doubtful, most of the fleet is 1-3 years old, but they don't save lives. Police presence does.

Unmarked or "Q" cars are fairly easy to spot (to the trained eye) but yes they do serve a purpose, however they are all too often used sneakily, although many people who drive beside or in front of me tend to slow down, so there is a general fear amongst the average motorist of unmarked cars too.

Still if the quality of roads were better there would be less accidents, surely that's more important then campaign after campaign.

Imagine if you were the cop getting to drive the unmarked xr8 - awesome! I tend to agree about having highly visible cop cars as I too think they deter more wrongdoing than the unmarked cars. Here in NZ they contract speed camera duty to others. They are usually an old van parked somewhere in the country. I like them when I'm riding my Harley - no front number plate!

I think the reason they get the flash models would be just as much to do with OH&S. Providing the most adequately equipped vehicle for turning on speeders (within reason) and brakes etc. as well. Resale on these cars is also much much better.

As for spending $$ on fighting crime etc. Thats where most of the $$ goes in NSW but people just don't see this stuff going on and unless it makes the news (very rare) nobody knows about it and rarely remembers when they do. But everyone sees the XR's and SS's because they are trying to be seen and people see these and think of their hip pocket! The only interaction most people have with police is the HWP as they are out and about targetting traffic offenders.
Pretty bloody simple in my opinion!

As I said though, the amount of times an inner city chase occurs does not justify an XR8 or SS when a plain 6 cylinder could easily keep up and report back on the progress of the car.

The best chase weapon is a helicopter - which sadly never gets out much in Melbourne as it's always being serviced, out of fuel or in the country on a medical run.

theres an unmarked VZ black SS 2 hours down from Tweed coast, got a nice set of aftermarket 19"s on it too, which is wierd, most cop cars seem to down-option to 17's for tyre budgets
