I'm 2nd gen aussie.

On mum's side her father was lebanese and mother from kythera in greece.
On dad's side he doesn't have a clue cause he is like 4-5th gen aussie, however i think there may be some scottish.

So to break it down I would say i'm 25% greek, 25% lebanese and 50% aussie.

I was born here, mum and dad are both from East Timor and they both have Chinese ancestory, which goes back to Maucau and some place near Guangdong (Moiyan?? - According to parents) which would explain why we all speak Hakka.

Got a wog name but my great great grandfather on my dad's side was in the light horse charge at Beersheeba in WW1. Mum's side goes back when the Irish only farmed yams and spuds. Used to cop wog taunts at school as a kid but I've got more Australian in me than the Anglo named fella whose parents came here in the 50s.

That's a proud history you have there. An awesome display that Lighthorse charge!

I was reading up on it late last year. Absolutely awesome! I reckon every Aussie should know about it.

I was reading some of the account of the charge to over 100 secondary students for 20 minutes. You could have heard a pin drop the whole time! Now that is quite rare. So was the charge, the last real calvary charge of modern warfare.

Now back on topic. My background:

Both parents are Greek Cypriot (Greek speaking from the Island Cyprus). There are Turkish Cypriots also, same island different language. As a rule, the Greek speaking are Greek Orthodox in religion, the Turkish speaking are Muslim.

Cyprus is a tiny island in the Med. Marcos Bagdatis, the tennis player is from there. Its flag is the only one in the world with an outline of the county on it!

My folks came here by boat, the SS Rosa in 1962.

I'm Aussie and proud of it. Part of me is Cypriot also, and that part comes out when I least expect it. Usually I'm running in Anglo mode though. LOL!

I was born here.
Dad was born in England with Irish parents.
Mum was born here in Australia too, as were her parents, and further down I think they were of English/Irish heritage too.

So I've got a pretty strong "Celtic" heritage. It certainly explains my family's taste for drinking!!

Good to see another Greek Cypriot amonst the FFA members! My sisters and I were born here, however the parentals immigrated in the late 70's. My grandparents, great grandparents and great great grandparents were all Cypriots.

Havn't bothered tracing back further than that... the family is just too big.

Me ... Lol I'm messed up. I got it all.

Finding it hard to remember things with age LOL but it goes something like this:

Great grandparents born in Spain. They move to Sicily. Grandparents then born in Sicily. They then move to and settle in Dalmacija, Croatia. Dad born in Croatia. He moved to Australia. Dad marries Hungarian (my biological mother) They make me (born here in Carlton) Dad splits and raises me alone as a Croat. But then......

Dad re-marries to a Serb. Her parents (my step-grandparents) Serb. Her brother (my step-uncle) marries a Macedonian. Cousins born & raised Maco.

My grandparents (on my biological mums side) were Russian.

Confused? Yeah me too! LOL.

So my background is quite mixed but I was raised Croat so that's what I am
