Mate far as im aware you cant get done speeding front on in adelaide due to privacy laws or some bullshit works for roadside cameras such as car cams and pole cams.

Red face Which Way do Speed Cams Work??

As far as I know the speed camera will not take a head on photo because the flash from the associated flash gun can distract a driver causing an accident. In NSW the camera takes the photo of a car travelling away from the camera.

Sorry but both posters above aren't correct. Camera's do either direction of traffic. Flash's are higher enough up not to get directly in drivers eye's.

Not to mention it can induce seasures.... jk

that's good to know cos a while ago i was driving along this street... i know exactly where the cam is... and it flashed me... looked up at my speedo "59km/h"... but then i saw someone going the other way quite fast. I was just worried the RTA sending me that letter.

It also depends on what kind of speed camera you're talking about... Ones at the lights, or the ones in a van they use on the side of the roads, blah blah you know.

From my personal experience, different cameras take you different from angles, they are not all the same...

There are forward facing speed cameras in NSW. They don't have a flash but you IR to see your number plate and are aimed only at the number plate so you can't see in the car.

If you don't beleive me go on the Cumberland Highway (Pennant Hills Road) next to burnside school. Forward facing cameras in both directions.

Drive past a camera and look around to see if inbedded in the road for sensors usually you would find them after the camera on the same side but not over the other side of the road.

Mate dont worry speed cameras dont take pictures of cars going in both directions in adelaide atleast that would be impossible how can a road side camera inside a station wagon or sedan be pointed at both sides of the roads to catch diffrent sets of numbers plates? As for pole cameras ive speed through them at 70 front on and no flash and no fine so that theorys busted.

Adelaide, I was driving southbound bobtail down pt wakefield road turning right into the Bolivar Caltex last thursday night about 7pm. I was doing 50km/h by this time )(Speed Limit 90km/h) I was the only vehicle moving within the vicinity and a green Falcon Wagon with a camera on the bumper flashed. Hmm... I told my boss to expect an expiation notice telling him 'Exceeded 50km/h in 90km/h zone' or something of that nature.

Look for the square boxes cut out in the road. They are the sensors for the camera.

Did you see the flash as you where driving towards it? Or did you see the flash as you where driving away from it in your rear view mirror. Also, what side of the road was it? On your left side, or on your right side?

Oh and with the points thing, It should be 1 point for every 10km/h you go over the limit. But they should also put in the 10% over first mark. So if you're going 110 in a 100km zone, they should wipe out the 10km. So in a 60 zone, if you are going 100, that about 4 points... (hope that made sense)

Another thing, its not only speed cameras they have now on the side of roads, they also set up cameras to record licence plate numbers to try trace stolen vehicles and other things. Not saying it was, but it could have been...

I haven't had one for quite a while, but from memory I believe its 3 points for 1-15 over the limit. So in a 50 zone, if you were doing less than 65 I'm pretty sure its 3 points.

IN NSW SPEED CAMERAs GET BOTH WAYS.

I should know I've raced to emergencies only to see the flash get me with the camera facing me, it's a pretty big flash, you'll definatly know when you've been flashed!

Not unless they are on both sides of the road.
They wont get you if its on the other side,my theory is that its because in alot of cases it will be obstructed by the opposite facing traffic,so they dont bother, and yeah you can see that sensor on the road anyway.
They may work on some, but ive never run into one yet.
And yes I test it regularly, its revenue pure and simple and shits me to tears,so you could say I do it on purpose,if I ever get done so be it....

They work BOTH ways and all lanes in Qld

On certain roads with trees etc in the way obviously they will only do the lanes that are visible to the camera but it depend on the position.

All speed cameras here are in police cars that park on the side or in the middle (central island) of the roads.

And we always get sent a pretty picture without asking.

They will get you either way long as theres no medium strip in between you and the Camera.

i was coming towards it, it was on my right. ie i was going south and the car was facing north. didnt even realise i was speeding until it was to late and bam, flash.

if i do end up getting done for it ill have no problems with paying the fine and all coz i shouldve paid more attention to my speed, just worried about any points, ive just started a new job delivering and i need 2 drive

In South Windsor and Kurrajong Heights North West of Sydney I've raced past both those speed cameras lights and sirens and it flashes.

I don't totally know whether they look at the picture realise its a cop car with its red and blues going and bin the photo or whether the flash is for fun.
