Angry NSW P-Plater Laws ****ed off thread

Just got the info in the mail about new NSW P-Plater laws.

P1 Drivers caught speeding will have liscence suspended for at least 3 months.

P1 Drivers under age of 25 must not carry more than one passenger between 11pm and 5am.

Learner and P1 licence can't use mobile phone.

P1 and P2 drivers must display plates on exterior of car.

These laws don't really affect me as I am up to P2's but it's a pain in the *** if I wan't to find a designated drivers and smart asses always flog the plates off your car if they are on the outside.

On top of the blanket ban on V8's Turbos, Supercharged performance sixes and modified cars these laws are getting stupid.

Feel sorry for L platers too 120 hours is a lot to forge :

At least the world of motorbikes is still fairly safe though it is getting really expensive for insurance and to get your liscence.

I predict a lot of people will just give up meaning we are going to have a lot of unliscenced people on the road.

YAY! i wanna have a cry about these bullsh.it laws. Believe it or not, but my dad was looking at getting me a volvo he found that had a manual gearbox (very rare i know) but because the bloody thing has a "giant powerful unruly turbocharged engine" i cant drive it. i mean a VOLVO! seriosly, but its cool for me to jump into my fairmont with about 2 times as much power and rip around in that. But oh noooo i cant have the volvo! (and yes i checked with the RTA) and that also goes for a lovely ZG fairlaine i wanted to get. 302 made 185kW from the factory when it was new in 1975. but i cant drive it because it is a "hugely powerful V8" (despite the fact a BA XT puts out 190kW from only 6cyl). But these laws are still rubbish and im still going to get myself a nice lovely NF-AU fairlane with the V8. Im sure as hell not gonna wait until im 20 before i can drive a proper car.

Same,

I was going to get a 68 Fairmont with the 302 Windsor and column shift auto.

The RTA was afraid I might be overwhelmed with it's 157kw.

I think an RX8 is technically legal which is friggin stupid.

I can still ride a V8 Nitrous Turbo Hayabusa if I want to though lol.

Are the laws better in other states?

I unfortunately am not familiar with the ..teach them to get a licence and not how to drive concept.

I just ****ed off about the p plate on the outside of the car crap like how does the position of the p plate on the car affect the way we drive and cause us to crash and die, it does't it just another stupid way the government can make money out of us but beside this new law the rest doesn't bother me

The blanket ban on V8's Turbos, Supercharged performance sixes and modified cars are alright, in a way. Im under them..

Gives me time to save hard core, then go all out on a stroked and blown v8, putting 1000hp at the treads

Read the site shown below, then you will have a real reason to be peeved. They keep making the laws, we keep voting them in, they keep taking money from our wallets in fines and petrol taxes but the road toll doesn't improve and the roads get worse. But hey, we can always blame 'P' platers, because
it's easy. The fact is while that 'P' plate is hanging on the car you are an easy target, but in fairness to the boys in blue, the few bad apples out there do not help the many more decent ones.
Just for the record, anybody using a mobile phone whilst driving should lose their license for a month or two. You only have to look at the insurance company statistics to see how many accidents involve the use of mobile phones (hand held type) Anybody driving a decent car, should think this.

I am going to get my Ls (if my plan goes according to... plan) in August, which would mean I am going to need to do the 120 hours. Frankly, I'm not that fussed, the more driving I get to do, the more confidence I will have, and so when I am first out on my own, I might be less likely to do something silly. Also, it is good to have some time under your belt, especially in the night, because I'm sure it's a whole new game in the night, or in the wet.

There is no doubt that in general people are going to be more tempted to forge hours, which in a sense is partially the governments fault, because it forces people to disobey the rules, because they are possibly a bit too harsh.

But I don't quite agree with the fact that you can go from driving a 6 Cylinder car to a Supercharged V8 Spacerocket within the space of a week, I mean as far as transitions goes, that's like riding a wheelchair down the stairs.

But there is no sense in me getting all upset over it, I may as well just get used to it.

The way to stop that jump is take the stupid ban of v8s and modified cars.. that way u slowly progress, instead of forcing to take the jump, so to speak..

The governemnt need to:
A: Blame someone :- young P Plate hoons are an easy target (and sometimes rightly so)
B: Appear to be doing something:- Knee jerk reaction by putting silly restrictions on cars / drivers and also bringing in stupid Anti Hoon laws.

The NSW government does not care about young drivers or the road toll, they just need to be "trying".

If they wanted to fix the problem, they would look at better driver training and banning P plater cars that are dangerous because of power.

Does this mean for instance now, if you are a p-plater driving from Victoria to NSW, that you must display your p-plates on the exterior. Or would you follow Victorian law?

It's just confusing that one state does things one way, and another do them differently and knowing which to obied by.

i think this should be the rules for P-platers.
some may take this as a joke but i see it as good measure.

1st year on P's: 100kw-1 tonne power to weight ratio(car can be modified just so long as it stays in the power to weight ratio), 5 demerit points (lets face it people make mistakes), NO usage of mobile phones is to be tolorated, .000 BAC, MUST have completed driver training course before obtaining P's

2nd year: 125KW- 1 tonne power to weight ratio(car can be modified so long as it stays within the power to weight ratio), +4 Demerit Points, Hands Free mobile devices aloud although no other mobile usage is allowed. .000 BAC

3rd year: 150KW- 1 tonnet power to weight ratio (car can be modified so long as it stays within the power to weight ratio), +3 demerit points (giving you a total of 12 demerit points if you have been good!), Hands Free mobile usage no other form of mobile usage is allowed, .002 BAC (lets face it a gradual step into it is better then jumping into the deep end).

now if you loose your P's i beleive the minimum term should be 3 months.

these of course are ideas i just thought of off the top of my head. so there is plenty more that could be listed.... feel free to voice your opinion, or add to the rules...

I must say... these 'soon to be' regulations are ridiculous .. and they don't even affect me... bad luck to you guys, i'm going to buy myself a v8 very shortly :P

well i know i did madness in my 993cc suzi swift while on my P's 140km on windy potholed roads (yes it did it, yes it was stupid) sliding it out round 90 degree gravel bends at 60+kph (again not denying it was stupid) the list could go on further but i believe my point is made about me being lucky to be here to say it. but having a crash in that tin can would have 100% killed me, (probably would be able to fit it in your boot after hitting something) where as if i was in a larger car with more safety features i would have stood a chance (still not advocating stupidness) but I do know for a fact my father did much worse with others around in his youth, like on cross rd or glen osmond rd where as i was the only one in the car 95% of the time especially when trying "new" things, and also not in built up areas.

Please note: I am NOT advocating stupid driving i am just pointing out that the same kind of stupid driving can occur in the smallest most gutless of cars, though you can more often guarantee the worse out come on the smaller car.

OI, I am own an XE and Towards the end of the year Ill have my P2's so I won't be effected by these laws.

BUT my XE has a 4.1 Carby, at Christmas I want to get money and put a new cam, extractors, holley 350 and other engine do dads. Is this going to be illegal. If I were to do all this minus the Holley 350 and maybe just really tune the good old Weber. Would I get away with it because a copper would actually open up an engine and check out the cam etc????

Need answer please?

You may find come July 1st, these "P plate" rules are going to effect all states. So you would be following Victorian laws by having the plates on the exterior.

I seriously doubt a copper, if pulling you over, would even be able to discern the fact that you have new cams, carb etc. Maybe a thorough inspection by a mechanic if the cops have impounded your car/found you seriously speeding or something... but I really doubt it. That being said, it would 'illegal'.

these are also the same laws coming in as of june 1st in queensland i believe

OK I have a question.

As as Victorian P plater in NSW, do I have to display my plates on the outside? Despite no regulation requiring me (as far as I know) to display it on the outside.

It's pointless, half the P platers I see in NSW already have plated displayed on the outside. But most of them are shoved behind the number plates.

I'm goning to buy a beat up VW beetle, paint Ps all over it and limit it to 40km/h. Seems like the only way not to be booked, it's also sooooo much safer.

Glad I'm off the bloody things in a year.

i was driving on the great western tonight (those who live in the penrith region know what im talking about) its a 80km zone and 2 red p platers came past me, i was doing about 85-90km (yes i was speeding a touch) and they wouldve had to be doing at least 110-120. im on my greens, but when i first got my license i lost it, i only had it for a month, got caught doing 104km in a 60. lost it for 6months. ive had it back now for a year n a half and havnt done a stupid thing since then, i reckon the rules are good, except for the p plate on the outside, theres no where to put it on the front of the car

The blanket ban on V8s, turbos, and superchargers is just ridiculous. A power-to-weight ratio limit is far more effective for exactly the reason that a 20 year old V8 or turbocharged Volvo, as mentioned, is far less powerful than an e-series Ford I6, and yet the former is illegal rather than the latter.

Similar laws are being introduced in Victoria as of the first of July, however P platers who have obtained their licence before 1st July do not fall under the new laws. Is this the same for NSW?
