Ford Galaxy (not the old one)...Thoughts...

I've been living in Australia for 6 years now...have gotten used to the cars, and noticed the vehicle trends, what people are buying and what they're not...

One thing I am quite surprised about is the lack of the Ford Galaxy (or another equivalent) in Australia.

Over the time I have been here, it seems clear that people carriers (MPVs or whatever you like to call them) are very popular. The Toraga and Carnival seem to be the leaders. Carnival maybe due to the great price, but the Toraga is no cheap vehicle (when new anyway).

I guess the Territory/Ranger is the closest Ford have to this kind of vehicle.

What are your thoughts on Ford having a vehicle like this in Oz? The European Ford vehicles seem to be becoming more popular over here now, with the Focus, Fiesta and most probably the new Mondeo when it arrives.

Is there demand for another vehicle in this class?

My sister and BIL just came back from living (working) in France for 4 months and they were supplied with one of these by his company. He seemed to like it and my parents visited them over there and with 4 adults and 2 kids they travelled around in it a bit. Dad thought it was a good bit of gear too.

The Galaxy is just a large S-Max. Bring that here instead Ford!
The Territory is an off-roader, and we don't all want that look.

Hmm I think the Territory should be left as the biggest Ford Vehicle here (not including the F truck).

Others have said it before, but the S Max would perhaps be a better option.

S Max and Galaxy are supposed to be good cars, but i guess with Escape and Terry they figure it is not needed. Either that or Ford figures taking on the Tarago is too hard.

S-Max is the bomb, the 'european car design' award winner for 2006.

S max remionds me of the HOlden Zafira and Mistu Nimbus (even harking back to the nissan prarie) People movers built on teh underpinnings of small cars. (focus, astra, pulsar, colt etc)
They just dont seem to be popular here in oz, too small perhaps?. Most of them are hard put to carry more then 4 people and some baggage. Once you sit people in row 3 (which is a squeez anyway) where do the cases/bags/shopping go? IF you are only going to carry 4 people (or 5 if one or more is a little kid) why not a normal car?
THe Galaxy looks bigger, more carnival like, could be a seller at the right price.

Anything like that would most likely take sales away from Falcon or Territory.

Where's the business case for that?

MPV's just don't sell in enough numbers. The Carnival does OK cause its cheap but the MPV class is one of the smallest markets overall. Ford considers their Territory 7 seater their people mover, without the nerdy image that usually goes with them.
