Default Rules on tinting...

Hey guys...

Looking at buying a Kia Grand Carnival, and looking at what extras that I should get. As this car has very large windows, I want to get them tinted....

On the two front windows I want to get darkest legal,

but what is the legality with getting REALLY dark tint on the rear side windows. Can I legally get a midnight/mirror finish on these windows, or does the rule still apply?

you can get the rear side windows tinted as dark as you like. As long as the front drivers and passengers windows are 20% legal tint, all is fine.

have the NSW tint laws changed recently ???

if not i think that you will find it is 35% vlt on all windows for passenger vehicals and 35% on the fronts on comercial vehicals with no limits on rear.

the carnival is a passenger vehical unless it has had the rear seating permanently removed.

This does not apply to vehicles if they have the darker rear windows from the factory eg. Mitsubishi Pajero.

You will only legally be able to have T35 tint fitted to all of your windows in the Kia. Oh and good choice, I drive them at work all the time and I prefer them over brand new taragos. Just got to be gentle on the throttle if you dont like your tires going up in smoke

If I was embarrased, why would I buy one?

Anyway, It's not to hide me, it's to keep the sun out of my kids eyes... hence only the rear windows...

Does any one have some pic examples of T35 tint?

Kool then. Not too sure on the legalities of tint but im pretty sure you can go as dark as you want as long as you keep it legal on the tailgate window. Front door windows do need to be legal as far as i know.

Here ya go, this is darkest legal 35%.
The tint itself is MEP Ultimate, worth every cent, remember just because it's dark doesn't mean it keeps the sun out, there's a fair bit more to it than that.

I will definately be getting this tint back on my new Lancer asap, I can really tell the difference now I dont have it.......and it's only Winter!!

Don't of course go any darker than your applicable state laws allow or you could void your insurance if you have an accident, and to back up what you actually have on the vehicle keep all receipts and documentation to prove that the tint is within legal limits..........insurance companies unfortunately can try all sorts of things to get out of paying up in your time of need.

How can you hate tinted windows!!
Tinting = cooler interior, not getting sunburnt on long drives, zero upholstery fade, badly adjusted headlights behind you don't bother you and not having everyone else see into your car.
I love my tinting

Here's a pic of the Territory when it was new nearly 3 years ago with new tint on it.
This is the 35% tint I got done at Solartint just after picking it up. It's what is allowed as the darkest in NSW ... although some tint colours can look darker.

Visible Light Transfer (VLT) is 35%.

White vehicle seem to look like they have darker tint ... this photo was taken on an overcast day though so it doesn't look at dark ... but on a bright day the white paintwork really contrasts against the tint.

I have 20% on the side windows of my work ute ... and 5% on the rear window (commerical vehicle) ... and it's very dark ... keeps me cool ... but night and pre sunrise visibility is hard ... especially reversing in dark carparks as well. Not too goo on the size of vehicle you are after really.

I suggest the 35% for the KIA ... it's perfectly fine on my Territory and I am happy with it ... as there's a lot of glass on it as well ... stays nice and cool in Summer and really helps the air-con work efficiently.

What is important is to make sure the tint you get blocks all the different UV radiation ... some of the really dark tints aren't as efficient as some of the better quality 35% VLT tints out there.

Don't bother with the Kia carnival as the have poor resale value and engineering problems.

You wanna people mover, the best value for money is the Honda Obessey. Good resale value, excellent style and feature and quality workmanship.

My 2c worth.

i got 20% all round on the van..almost got done when doing the roadworthy..the legal is 35% as others have mentioned but at the garage they said because its an older car and a commercial vehicle i could have it that dark..

Dark tint on the white car looks awesome..you can barely see into it
