I can tow my horsefloat comfortably with my LPG ute ... and earns me good money doing courier work at little cost.
Maintenance costs aren't much more than a petrol vehicle .... and that is well offset by the cost of LPG. Highway driving is effortless as well ... I used to have a small modified Proton hatch ... it was fun to drive ... but overlong distances it felt like it was a task to drive. Pros of a small 4-cyl: cost of rego is less. easier to park That's about it.

4cyl: CON gutless, buffed by wind, feminine, ricey 6cyl: PRO bigger, more luxurious, easier to mod, much more powerfull, best bang for buck and AUSTRALIAN FTW 6cyl: CON .... ..................... ...................................... i got nothing. |

I dont park in tight spots anyway. It is quicker to park far away immediately. Get out and powerwalk than cruising round for close parks.

I don't bother about normal parking spots .... i use loading zones .. because I can (yes legally) ... free 30min parking anywhere.
It's great being a courier.

6-cyl LPG cars are only beaten in fuel running costs by 4-cyl Turbo-diesel cars. More to the point, the Polo 1.9 TDI, Golf 1.9 & 2.0 TDI, 307 HDi, Punto 1.9 JTD etc etc.

4 cylinders are cheaper than the cost of an lpg tank I mean.
but i was told you pay 2500 for LPG conversion and get 2000 back from the government. |

only the 1.4 lit version is doing about 4 to 4.5 lit. Now diesel is at $1.60 a lit vs LPG 60 cents. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Who told you that? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Dedicated gas Falcon's tank is 90L, not 110. They average 15-20L/100km. Going by Ford's optimistic, BS claim (15L/100km), that's 600km from 90L. For it to do 1000km it'd have to average 11.11L/100km. Not on your life.

did you even stop to consider that a family member owns one!! its a wagon, like i said, with a 115L gas tank (2x60). they regularly get over 700km round town on about $55 and on the highway will easily get over 1000 depending on how loaded it is. taking it relatively easy we proved it possible to achieve almost 1200km. ford also did a promotional round australia trip in a dedicated sedan a while back and achieved similar results. round aus for less than 1k. with 3 or 4 adults in comfort. show me a small car that can achieve even remotely close to that. clown ![]() ![]() |

The HDi 307 we have costs about 7 cents per kilometre. Therefore the Peugeot is currently cheaper to run. When LPG was down in the low 50's and high 40's (cents per litre), the Falcon dropped to about 6-7c/km. Quote:

As for the original question posted, the wife and I had our in-laws 2000 Corolla a couple of years ago, before we bought the 307. It was cheaper for my wife to drive to work (mix of city and highway driving - 110km round trip) in the Falcon on LPG than it was to take the Corolla (1.8L DOHC) on petrol. So my wife took the Falcon and the Corolla sat at home as I took the bus to work. Sure it costs more to buy a larger car, but once on LPG, the costs will be earned back with the savings on fuel costs.

it is impressive, however it is not real world stuff. i wonder how much difference a couple of extra people and luggage would've made.

307 1.6L HDi 240Nm @ 1750rpm 307 2.0L HDi 320Nm @ 2000rpm Falcon XT 4.0L I6 383Nm @ 2500rpm The 307 is 1494kgs and I couldn't find the weight of the Falcon to compare, so I can't take in to account the weight difference of the cars, but one could assume that the Falcon would be pushing well past 1500kgs. So I don't think that weight would play much of a difference in what the cars could achieve.

$1000 budget to circumnavigate Australia? Easy. Lets see... Golf 2.0 TDI DSG I'll be conservative here... 4.5L/100km highway consumption, 55L tank, that's 1,222.22km/tank. Its roughly 13,000km to circumnavigate Australia on the National 1 highway, so that's 10.64 full tanks. 10.64 * 55 = 585.2 litres. By $1.499 a litre for diesel that's $877.21. That was easy. Though the old Polo 1.4 16V we had could do it as well... 4.35L/100km highway consumption, 45L tank, 95 RON fuel. 1034.48km/tank, for 13,000km that's 12.57 tanks. 45 * 12.57 = 565.65 litres. By $1.459 a litre for 95 RON that's $825.28. How about my Renault Clio Sport? 5.2L/100km on the highway, 50L tank, 98 RON. 961.54km/tank. 13.52 tanks to cover 13,000km. 13.52 * 50 is 676 litres. By $1.509 for 98 RON that's $1,020.08 - just over. Now lets do an LPG Falcon. http://www.carsales.com.au/car-resea...60915.09:40:31 93L fuel tank, 10L/100km highway (and I'm being nice with the figure here). 930km from a tank. 13.98 tanks to cover the whole distance. 1300.14 litres, by $0.649 for LPG, that's $843.79. So lets see... Golf Diesel, piece of cake. Polo Petrol, piece of cake. Falcon XT E-Gas does it between them, and the high-revving sports car *just* misses the target. Gee, small cars can't do it hey?

do you read all the words or just the ones you want to see.
lets see 3 to 4 adults in comfort on a long journey with luggage, in one of these u beaut small cars of yours. sure a small car can do it just as cheap, and cheaper but if i'm gong on a long journey and i've got a choice, i know which one i'd have. also why do you struggle to believe that a dedicated gas falcon achieves what it does. maybe you assume that its a ba. at no point did i say this but going on your last few posts, you don't tend to read that well anyway. au's are a bit lighter and possibly do a little better on the juice than a ba. |
