Default holy hail

We had a wild hail storm today while at work in Blacktown (western Sydney), which caused a lot of damage to cars and houses.
Here are some picks from my mobile:

My mates car got absolutely worked by the hail... big starfish crack in the windscreen, dents everywhere. Lucky it's a 4runner and just makes it look tough.

Hey Jason
The 3rd pic , is that the corner of Balmoral & Newton rds , looks like my brothers old house 3rd along the street ?

Probably not , I left there 16 yrs ago and things would have changed heaps, but thought I'd ask .

you work at btown station mate?

i got caught in it as well, at btown/eastern creek on my way home to erskine park. nowhere to stop on the m4. i solidered on only copping golf ball sized hail.

some decent hail damage but nothing like my mates cars who live at blacktown. or roofs or anything like that.

Check these guys out!

I was out at eastern creek at a driver training day, on the skid pan when these things started falling. I managed to get undercover and somehow avoided any damage. Lots of cars didnt though, including a whole row of new subarus that looked like they were there for a display or something.

This dosn't happen too often around here, is it true that insurance companies won't cover any damage to motorvehicles even if you pay the deductable?

no, they will cover it.

i went down to my panel beater today for him to give me an assessment. the damage on my car is not that bad. but there is a fairly good chance that it will be a repairable write off. so yeah. it pays to be comprehensively insured.

Comprehensive insurance you should be all good.

I got caught in the Ulladulla hailstorm in 2005. I was just south of Lake Tabourie on the open road and it hit like nothing I have even heard about before. Managed to stop on the side of the road but the wind and tree branches going everywhere were amazing. The sound was absolutely astounding. I thought we were gone for sure as trees were coming down so got my wife on the back seat, lay over her and then pulled some blankets and pillows over. Never been as scared since. No time for foolin around either believe me...

Long story short, $14500 damage to a 4 month old Futura. Was repaired by Lumley's, off the road for 3.5 weeks.

Got some radar echo's from the BOM afterwards. We were in a 1km super cell path that actually missed Ulladulla, but they still copped it bad. a few mins either way and we would have missed the worst...

Not a great weekend away.

We did get Sunday's storm up on the central coast. Only 5mm hail, but lost power for 3 hours.

Hope it works out ok for all you affected.

Yep guys , I'm sure thats it ,
Jason , it is the road down to the station .

When I lived/worked in Blacktown & Erskine Park we had bad hail storms (but not as bad as that) but since moving bush , the biggest hail stones we get out here are only the size of "marbles" , not "Baseballs" . I think I made a good move ..

norm, we havnt had hail out this way forever, and if we did it was only tiny marble stuff or smaller.

this was a freak storm and it just cut an angle straight through from Erskine Park to blacktown through minchinbury, rooty hill and eastern creek on the way. insane.

HLC , we had 2 storms when we lived out there ( mid 80's) within a couple of months (not that bad) broke a few roof tyles but was damn scary just the same , about golf ball size hail . Seemed the storms came from the east , hit the mountains and came back for a second go .

Did that one come over the mountains , from the east & turn around , or just "appear" ?

We do get heavy rain & winds out here , but not the "Huge iceballs "
