i just got a pinto right, some of you know its sump is damaged, anyway ive been looking at the engine and things that need replacing and such.
the engine has sat for 4 years, but after looking at the internals, i think its rebuilt. so i replaced the fuel line, the return line back to the pump, the line from the intake thingy on the side, to the side of the carburetter, and some other little things, now, ive noticed there is a shitload of tubes dangling around the front of my engine..whats up? where does all this go? no pics..but all the pipes start the the top radiator pipe. and the go 2 some thing on the side of the distributer, intake carby etc. are these things even neccesary? can i just rip it all off? wait i found one pic but its not very good. |

You need to plug that pipe from topside of carb. That goes to that thing on inlet manifold. If you dont block it fuel will everywhere. The fuel line goes to the other side. That one on dizzy is vacc advance. You dont have to block that it just connects to inlet manifold. It helps with fuel economy. That other pipe the large one is for PCV valve (i think that it is called) just block them all up or remove it. What they dont see at rego inspection they dont usualy pick up on.

Don't be pulling pipes, hoses etc off and turfing stuff unless you know what they actually do. I'd suggest you just box them up as you may need them at a later stage to match part no etc.
As for rego/RW, it varies btwen states but if your car is post pollution ADR rule 27A (from nov 75 onwards) you'll need to keep all the pollution gear on it to get a RWC. Get hold of a gregorys manual, as well as a later Ford workshop manual (post 1977) as this has all the spec for the 2lt as well as torque settings etc. The gregorys is good for working out the pollution gear, as most young mechanics who work on efi cars, will struggle to figure it out without a manual. |
