Default XA GTHO PhaseIV - In most recent AMC mag...

Just out of curiosity, was browsing the most recent AMC mag and saw that they've got a bit on all 4 of the XA GTHO PH4...

I've never seen photos of the Rally car (extensive article and photos which are AWESOME)...
And i've certainly NEVER ever seen photos of the illusive GREEN machine... though I must say, I was a little dissapointed with the shot that they used (though I'm sure there isn't many around)...

Has anyone got ANY photos of these cars (that aren't already on BOWDENS website)...

I vaguely remember seeing a REAR shot of the Green road car in an old mag when I was in high school, but I can't seem to find it anywhere...

If anyone has any links, or photos, please post??? Or email to me
melnazz@lizzy.com.au

Cheers
Loftie

the current owner of the green production car is understadably very reluctant to take it out very often, so pics are very scarce. i will be going to bowdens this weekend (yay for me!) and am hoping to get some decent pics then, if you like i may be able to send some to ya next week?....if we are allowed cameras- not sure yet.

In the super ford mag the pics of the phase 4 shows it in the wrong colour. The car was resprayed a darker green at some stage but was repainted back to Calypso green some time ago. I had the mag here but it was borrowed without permission. :(

This is the only Phase IV as far as I am concerned because this is the only car with a H code engine on the VIN tag. The Other 3 cars wher ordinary GTs with the Phase IV bits added later.

She came out of the factory Calypso green. Was repainted the darker colour. Might be kelly green from memory. Has since been returned to Calypso. Personally I like the darker green with the silver highlights that the car was painted in but I guess if you're messing with the one and only factory phase 4 it's best to keep it original.

Shame the cars never went into production. What sort of power figures did this thing pump out, and did anyone ever get to know the acceleration times before they canned it?

It'd be nice to see just how badly the body on that GT was damaged before it became landfill.

I had a good look at the Calypso Green PH4 (when it was the green metallic colour at the time) when it was for sale at Lahoods in the early 80's for around $10k. Back then, nobody believed it was the real deal, myself included. Then again, nobody was admitting to the RPO's exsistence either!! So like everyone else, we assumed it was a overpriced, rip off XA GT with PH3 bits in it being plugged as a factory PH4.....
To understand at the time why people were sceptical of it's authenticity, nobody knew much about them or the RPO's, and Parramatta Rd was full of car yards claiming that they had 'one off' factory specials like genuine factory Phase 5' XD's, V8 LJ GTR XU2's, 6cyl XY GT's, factory HQ coupes with HZ rear lights etc etc, which of course was all horseshit.

Is it then safe to assume that this car has been resprayed??

Clearly in the first couple of shots, its got a silver bonnet, but in that last one, its got a dark bonnet...

Also, 3 sets of numberplates... does that mean at least 3 registered owners???

Thanks for the pics...
anymore would be great!!

nice to see the good old green girl getting some interest!!
she's certainly a HOTTIE!!!!!!!!

He also has quite an impressive collection of other GT's and non Fords too.

Car was restored a little while ago and looks mint now.

Calypso Green and white interiour is the best colour combo out there in the XA range, followed closely by Wild Plum/White Trim, Yellow Fire/White Trim and Cosmic Blue/White Trim.

In the article with these photos it said that the car had a less than pampered life before it was found by its current owner. From memory a bricky or chipy owned it at one stage and used it as a work vehicle. Boot full of tradesmans tools. Yes the car had a few paint jobs over the years. Wonder what the previous owners are thinking these days about the car that they once owned. Can you imagine it with them down the pub. "Hey I once owned the phase 4" Reply. "yeah mate, sure you did"

The dark green it was painted in with the silver blackouts is zircon green. It would be good to see it in it's current condition. Did the phase 4 get any chasis mods or any mods at all over the standard GT besides the H code motor and vacum tank.

Yeah it did. If you can track down the AMC edition featuring the phase 4 there is quite a list of mods. One thing I remember in the article is the rear suspension was modded in such a way that the exhaust had to be refabricated to fit. Going by the article this was a major drama to the bean counters as it would slow up the production line.
