Default Oil Service

Has anyone else had the 'oil service' message come up between the dials? My TDCi has done less than 10,000 kms and it's saying this? It's not due for a service for another 5,000 kms. Not good.

The UK Mondeo forum says that Ford in UK is doing a oil and filter change when the cars are coming into the dealership with this message up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The mondeo tdci I test drove had this message on screen.

The dealer told me the computer makes an algorithm based on your driving style to how soon the oil should be changed.

If it annoys you just reset the counter. Im pretty sure you fully depress the accelerator and the brake simultaneously with just the reds on, engine off.

Had the same thing show up around 6,500 kms even after changing the oil at the 3K service. Ford said the service reminder wasn't reset at the 3K service but still didn't give me a reasonable answer as to why this message showed up long before the 15K service interval.

I used to get a similar message on a VZ Holden ute, when I took it to a dealer they pressed some buttons on the dash to make the computer reset.

To play safe I'd be going to a dealer and quizzing them on it.

Turns out some filter needs a clean out once the warning comes up. It's a TDCi thing, I think.

So, it has to go back to the dealer this week, and they are going to give it an oil and filter change (and also the filter). No cost to me, as it will be a warranty thing. The service guy had to track down what it meant as he didn't know and had to ring up Ford Technical service for the answer. Not his fault, it is a new model. But I would have thought this wouldn't be the first time that it's shown up, my car has done less than 10,000.

Oh, well.

Mines (TDCi) been saying that for the last month, just 2000km after its 15,000 service. I assumed that it just needed a reset, not actual work done on filters.. Think I'll book mine in next week!

Well my car went in to the workshop on Monday - it started saying 'oil service' 2000km after its 15k service.

The guy I left it with reckoned that it just needed a reset since the light was the same set-up as in the Explorer which has different service intervals than the Mondeo, and was coming on due to that... Didn't fill me with any confidence since the Explorer is US built and the European Mondeo has nothing at all to do with it!

Picked it up in the afternoon, they had had to ring up Ford technical dudes who told them to change the oil, which they did at no charge.

This makes me wonder - is the service oil sensor actually smart enough to notice problems with the oil, rather than just being a light that automatically comes on at the pre-set service interval?? Or IS it just a light that comes on at the pre-set service interval, but requires the oil-change process to get it to go off - ie if they had simply drained out the oil and then put the same stuff back in again would that be enough to turn it off?!

Or (most likely) Ford don't have any idea what caused it but find that an oil change fixes it for some reason so just do that. Not that I'm complaining - I've got new (free!) oil in my car

My 'service oil' reminder started this week, as soon as it clocked 20,000km. Had the 15k service done at the dealer.

Seeing it started at exactly 20k, I'm thinking it's just based on the km and they didn't reset it at the service.

But I might just mention it to the service manager - I'm booked in for a visit in a couple of weeks because the tailgate has started rubbing on the bumper again - after 3 days at the paint place for a respray and supposed re-alignment!

My car is due in 2moro for it's first service. Got 17500k's on the clock and no sign of the service light on the dash. Most of our driving is short start and stops as well, skool & food runs.

Not sure what to expect bill wise but quite sure that it's not going to be cheap.

My 15k was $350 seems reasonable by service standards although I still believe its a rip off if you know what I mean

I get the message sometimes straight after a service.
I ignore it and reset using the brake and accelerator method.
I'm just short of the 150,000 km service and doing the reset hasn't resulted in any issues.

Damn right I know what ya mean. Are you ready for this..................the cost of my service today was.

This was all done by my wife so I'll be phoning them tomorrow to see WTF!!!! Labour costs was $227.60!!! according to the service manual, a normal service "A" is 1hr and 12minutes, that's $189.66 per/hr.

Think they might be taking the **** a little and if they refuse to do anything with the bill it will be the last time that I ever use Nuford, Wangara to service the car again.

Yep agree marcusturbo I think they may have taken advantage of your wife make sure you check if they replaced your wipers without asking you I believe from memory people had issues with this in the past good luck

My XR5 services have ranged from $260.00 to $1,500 at the 75,000k service, including front rotors & all pads. The tyre rotations have NOT been done on the last two services, inspite of specific requests & I busted them charging for it AGAIN!! In addition they told me the tyres needed replacing but the local tyre specialist says there at least 20,000k left on them.

So I had a busy day at work yesterday phoning round all the Ford Dealerships in Perth getting prices on a 15k service. The average cost was $330 where my garage charge $487!!!! So I then phoned and spoke to the service manager who was good and agreed that something was not quite right. He quickly noticed that I had been charged for the wrong oil, fully syn for the XR5 not the diesel stuff. He said that their standard job card has the details for pricing. He said that the difference in price of oil was $88 and I said what about the other $70 more that you are charging. He quickly bumped up the price to an instant refund of $100 and would give me another $50 when he finds out where the other difference is. He quickly said that they use Mobil oil and this was a bit more expensive, more like an easy cope out on the added costs.

I will be phoning him next week when back at work asking for my other $50 back.

Sounds like you had a win. A different Ford dealer charged me for re-programming the ECU (I'd changed wheel size from 15 to 16") during the "free" first service. At the time I wasn't sure the wrong profile tyre hadn't been on, so I didn't argue, but I worked out later that the right profile tyre had been put on. When I rang them about it, their argument was that the 0.4% change in rolling diameter would affect the gearbox etc etc.

My take on it was that there was probably a slight benefit to reprogramming, though I suspect that benefit is negligible. A few guys on this forum reckon it was a blatant rip-off. At the time, I didn't push it any farther (it was only $60), but guess where my next service won't be?
