Just read in the local rag, Eric bana is going to make his directorial debut making a movie about himself and his love affair with a 1974 Falcon coupe. He also will plays himself and it is said to be a comedy. Can't wait Australia needs a car movie.

Australian actor Eric Bana is set to make his directorial debut in a comedy about his love affair with a 1974 Ford.

Starring Bana as himself, the film, called Love The Beast, is about his 25-year-long infatuation a Falcon Coupe.

To be released early next year, it has been shot for the last two years and is currently in post production.

Bana has remained quiet about the movie until now, but decided to announce it after it turned into something bigger than expected.

"It has been both fun and incredibly exhausting at the same time and has enabled me to combine two of the things that I love - cars and filmmaking," the Hollywood star said in a statement.

"It started out as a simple project, but events along the way conspired to turn it into something I could never have envisioned."

Distributor Madman Entertainment said the movie had strong comedy elements.

"In an unexpectedly emotional journey, Eric explores the importance of friends, hobbies, and what it means to live life to the fullest," she said.

"Along the way Eric seeks counsel and guidance from household names such as (US talk show host) Dr Phil and (Top Gear host) Jeremy Clarkson."

Produced by Melbourne based comedy Patikalar Productions, it is shot in the Tasmanian wilderness, New York and London.

Bana's most recent acting role was in The Other Boleyn Girl and he is set to appear in Star Trek next year.

This looks like it should be a good movie.....

Comedy and Eric Bana already sounds great, not to mention the bonus of a 1974 XA Coupe Falcon!!!!

Most likely the film will be like his last driving venture, and crash. Nah, should be worth looking at.

Just saw the movie (was on Go!). Being the same generation as Eric I understand his passion 100%. Wish I was a smart as he was and picked up a coupe 20 years ago when they were dirt cheap and plentiful.

And then he paid someone (DJR's smash repairer, IIRC) to fix it.

I had one 15 years ago when they were dirt cheap, paid $1800 for a 302 powered XA coupe. Didn't think to hold on to it though.

Which is funny considering how the Car was understeering so badly from day 1 of Targa. Had nothing to do with the rear leaf suspension I'm afraid. I knew from watching it sledge through the prologue stage it wouldn't finish the event

No there won't be a sequel. Bana said that in the unique cars interview. That story tells the beast of what it was.

It doesn't see much work now anyway.

Hopefully he will backflip on his decision not to follow up.
