Just 57 votes is all it will take to produce a hung parliment in the NT with an independant holding the balance of power. This independant is very conservative by nature. If this comes about, it will be bye bye to 130 and hello to (//). And almost certainly a drop in the road toll. :
To say that the NT ALP got a severe kick in the but is an understatement. It just proves that no NT guvment should F' around with speed limits in the NT. If only other parts of Australia had polititions with as much guts as the current CLP.

while i am personally delighted at how well the clp has done so far i am not counting my chickens just yet with fannie bay but up here it seems ANYTHING can happen. The way he was talking last night if they need arose i can't see wood supporting labor given some of his comments. I wonder if the clp can get over the line now ( I hope!)

A terrific result, one that sends a clear signal to an arrogant, out of touch NT ALP. It's road safety policies are culpable, and greater numbers of folk should have been made aware of this road safety disaster, and just how important it is to resist such nanny state extremists.
Tis also a shame CLP were broke for campaign funds! IF NT ALP win, just, I know they will target speed, again. All decided beforehand, hence 'no discussion' was to be made during this election, more arrogance if you will. CLP would be well advised to keep as policy (//) - done to replace 130km/h zones, IF it genuinely wishes to reduce road trauma. NT ALP in turn - should re-adopt (//) to its high-standard highways, to effectively replace 130km/h zones. By all means, target the myriad of other road user behaviours that DO result in trauma. "Speed" however,- by 99% of the driving population IS NOT the road safety issue. Only a driver at point of operation can operate a vehicle safely; numerical speed signs, restrictive, politically correct speed regulation will never do this. For the record, NSW will not rule out its adoption in time, meaning, the sign would remain in our speed guidlines.

AFAIK they are still counting in fannie bay and IF the CLP win that (not likely atm from the sounds of it) they will be even with labor and need Wood the independent to side with one or the other. Could be wrong though |

hmmmm, i fear that even with the massive swing against the ALP, even if they manage to retain the leadership they ain't gonna learn from this election and we're going to have another 4 years with a useless government
