Default Dont know what to do!!

I am in one massive dilemma.

A few weeks ago i was caught driving 80km's in a 60km zone, yes, im an idiot for speeding and i knew i had been caught by the parked mobile camera.

However, i received my fine yesterday, It states i was travelling 114km's in a 60km zone.

WHAT THE HELL!!!!

I was lost for words when i received this letter.

I just dont know what to do about it, has any one else received speeding fines which were highly inaccurate?

I understand that 45km's + over the limit results in instant 12 month suspension and 8 demerit point loss. My job and lifestyle cannot handle this.

To make matters worse, i'm a P-plater.

First request a picture. Send a short note requesting it with TIN details etc and enclose a cheque for $7.50 or whatever.

If you can see any cars near you, tree's, signs etc, there's room to challenge.

Are you sure you weren't speeding? Those camera cars are highly tuned and rarely wrong. It's the fixed camera's that always give the problems.

If you're sure, it's probably something in the background that did it, but send for your photo ASAP.

DO NOT pay it before being 110% certain you're guilty. Payment is saying, yes I did it.

I was speeding, i was approximatly 20 km's over, i would of known if i was doing double the speed limit, which is kind of mental! People die at slower speeds than that.

No cars near me, i remember that, the car was placed on a bit of a corner though, it wasnt a straight road, to make it a bit more complicated i know i swerved my car closer to the other side of the road to avoid a pointy looking stick. Im not a stupid driver, and this is my first offence. I accept i wont get out of this, but if i could just minimise the penalty i would feel the slightest bit better.

Heck, im damn worried.

There's no minimising the penalty unless you take it to court. In which case, your defence needs to be spectacular, otherwise the exact opposite will happen.

You can write in to Civic Compliance to review the penalty, but I don't need to tell you that it'll simply look like a last ditch attempt to get our of a big suspension. However, after receiving the picture, you definitely need to write into Civic compliance requesting they review it.

Read the operating manual for the camera's, it's in another thread and judge whether or not the camera was properly set up.

If these avenues fail, you're pretty screwed man. But definitely try the above before accepting defeat.

Where abouts can i find the operating manual?

Such a massive amount over the limit is going to make it very difficult to oppose. However it may make them consider error more closely.

Maybe i should just start praying.

I thought I got done by a speed camera in June so i took a pic of it just in case i could find it was not parked properly - you should of done the same - everyone has camera phones these days

New Road, No Lines, parked just after a nice sharp decline GRRRRRRRR and looks to me as the car parked behind it is another speed camera!!

How long did it take for your fine to come in the mail?

You say it was not a straight road? Correct me if I am wrong somebody, but I thought that speed cameras cannot be set up on roads that are either going up or down a hill, or bending in either direction. I thought they must only be placed on 'near' straight roads to get an accurate reading.

I am interested you got a letter. Back in my teenage idiot days I got caught by a camera doing 140 in a 70 zone (have not had a speeding fine since that day, 6 years and counting) now I know mine was considerably more than 45km over but I had the cops come to my front door to question me, with a photo. I was formally charged with wreckless driving with intent. Have things changed now days?

If you feel you have had your speed wrongly recorded this site may help with some of the relevant legislation and arguments against your fine. http://fightfines.info

Only if the device is set up correctly. If what the OP is saying (in terms of positioning) is correct the car could have been set up in a manner that the returning wave bounced from his car was of an incorrect frequency and gave an incorrect reading. I wonder if other motorest recieved fines for incorrect readings.

If you were snapped on a bend doing 114k, your body roll would be a significant indicator.
