A lot of experts on that site I see....

So I may as well chip in with some expertise of my own

Someone did mention he probably forgot to put the handbrake on...I say differently, we all know just how good Falcon handbrakes are (NOT), poor guy probably didn't realise how unreliable the handbrake is lol.

I have seen some crazy stuff at boat ramps but this takes the case. All this crap about Falcadore's not being tow vehicles though, maybe not for a tri-axle 23ft cruiser but to lose a falcon over what looks like a 16ft half cabin suggests something else went wrong. We are a salt-water-in-the-veins boating family and none of us have never had a large 4wd tow car. The Forester is not our tow car either. I towed an old heavy 14ft ski boat with a Hyundai Lantra, and now tow a 16ft wakeboard boat with the 'lane and never had a problem towing, launching or retrieving - even at low tides. We even towed a tri axle trailer sailer with a 93 LWB Hiace. No drama's ever.

I feel for the person though, its easy to miss something and then bang, you lose your car. Happened a few years ago at the boat ramp near Port Botany in Sydney - that was a large 4wd as I recall.

Second the BA handbrake thing. My BA XR6 handbrake NEVER worked properly, even minutes after I got it back from Ford service. Couldn't hold it on even a moderate incline let alone with the Malibu attached. Something not quite right about chocking a $40K car! Wasn't there a thread about a kid that got pinned by a rolling BA?

Have look at this tool

"Seems the Falcon's get a bit of a nod over the Dunnydoor's due to having rear leaf suspension and solid beam axles as opposed to the General's IRS suspension.

For decent loads you will also be looking at transmission oil coolers, brake boosters, higher rated towbar, boot bracing, exhaust heat shields, weight distribution hitch, camber kit (if you have cr*ppy suspension, etc.

Now since if you need all that stuff I can't imagine it is a particularly good towing vehicle!!!"

hahaha this was down at the marine just down the road from me. everyone said the BA handles like a boat so this guy was just testing the theory. yeh fell sorry for him i think it was the car just slipped that is a pretty slippy ramp

Someone on that site corrected that person but even he was wrong, he said it's the ute w/ the leaf springs but he still said the Commodore has IRS and the Falcon doesn't.

saw a bloke trying to launch his boat a few years ago..... i just new it was going to go pearshaped just watching him.....

he unhooked the winch cable from the bow, reversed down the ramp fairly fast and slammed on the brakes.........sure the boat launched pretty well, but it ripped a great hole in the bow.......

bloke mustnt have realised that just where the whinch hooks on, his boat also has a shackle with a bolt in it attaching it to the trailer.......... oops!

At least he could reverse it.

I get absolutely sick and tired of people (usually women in my experience) who don't know how to reverse a trailer, yet attempt to get their boats in the water.

You'd think they'd practice in a car park before going to a crowded boat ramp in the morning.

Hopefully insurance will cover the car above. I'd be ****ed if I found there was some clause that didn't cover it there.

atleast they tied it up so it would go anywhere lol and i can vouch for those exelent handbrakes any falcon hey just dont work after 10000 km

The most fun you can have watching others stuff up with trailers is at the tip or the boat ramp.

Caravan Parks also provide a bit of humour too, but seeing I reversed into a tap at a coastal caravan park and broke it off 3 foot below the surface once, I'm extra careful there now!

I have always believed that you should to have an endorsement on your licence to tow. If we won’t let kids on P's drive powerful cars, why should we let people tow trailers up to the weight of their cars on a normal licence?

It's not just the reversing of them, it's the setting up the weight distribution, understanding the physics and all the little things that go with being a responsible driver when towing.

Wow do you know what actually happened??? If the car was going to slip, would it have gone that far into the drink? Also have a look at all those rocks sticking up, was it low tide when these pics were taken?

The person I really feel sorry for is the guy who goes
to the auctions and buys it as a repairable write off
thinkin he has got a bargain. Ok so it's had flood damage
that's no biggy..... opps they forgot to mention salt water.
If it was handbrake failure and the car still under warrenty
would Ford be liable I wonder?

I feel for the bloke, but what does a poor handbrake got to do anything with an Auto car being in PARK.
If he left it in Neutral yeh ok his fault, but then again it could be a 5 speed.

The old colum shift auto Fords were and might
I still ad are shocker for jumping into reverse.
We had an F250 at work recently do it. The look on the poor
yardies face was priceless. He pulled up in the workshop, put
it in park, hand brake on motor running. (big no no in a Ford)
Walked over to get air hose to pump up tyre and turned back
to see it reversing out the workshop door and straight into a
Hiace.
Built Ford Tuff...... the Hiace was written off by insurance
it did 9k damage at maybe 7klm p\h.

Look at the ramp though boys, it shouldn't of pulled him down.
And if that's the boat he should of had two people there

But anyways, never have tried putting boat in with a 2WD.
Then again our ramps are slippery and very steep and make 4WD's smoke tyres

Latest Ford killing news headline:

"Falcon can't deliver for underwater motoring"

Shocking scenes today witnessed by many as a strandard falcon could not be started under 1.5m of saltwater, the only option for it to be towed away. Experts believe if it was say a Toyota Aurion, the car could have managed to be started, driven through the deep end and back onto the boat ramp with minimal fuss, also with a good dry out in the sun to be bought back to new. Does this spell the end for Ford Australia?

The way its going it wouldnt surprise me to find this dribble in one of the next few papers

LOL at the ford not being Powerful enough to Tow that boat.

Seen a friend put his Dad's 24-26ft Boat in with a 4Cyl Rodeo, now pulling it out was fun to watch, not to sure if there was more Smoke coming off the Tyres or the Clutch LOL
