Default Why does it take 8 weeks to build an Falcon??

RANT ON

I did a deal on the 24/8/08 for an FG XR8 ute. Nothing special, fully stock except for the sports pack (18s,Ipod and Bluetooth). At the time I was told to expect delivery around the 3rd week of September (ie: NOW)... That got pushed out last week to 29/9/08, which was annoying but liveable. Today I dropped into the dealership to organise the paperwork for the finance. I was unable to do so as they could not provide a VIN number as Fraud had not even started to build the damm thing!!

Now I'm getting told that delivery will not be until mid October (if I'm lucky..) I f@#king blew up deluxe! I got told by the dealer that "apparently" Ford are closing down for a week after the October long weekend... These idiots have retrenched workers as they have nothing for them to do, close down at random times, etc,etc... I've got something for them to do. BUILD MY CAR!!

No wonder the monthly sales figures are rubbish. You can't get the idiots to actually get around to building them!! I'm not blaming the guys on the factory floor, it's the pencilpricks that manage them...

I told the dealer that if I don't have my ute by the end of next week, he can shove the deal up his **** and I'm off to Holden to by a VE SS!!!

RANT OFF :

Meh, try waiting 3 months for a corolla, or 7 months for a LC70.

Spose you think your there only customer.

Also, dealers get allocations as to what can be built or whats coming through, they (ford, toyota, holden whatever) can normally say no, can't build that car this month, will have to wait to next. normally theres a reason, sometimes not.

but yeah good things come to those who wait.

Surely there must be an XR8 sitting at a dealership lot somewhere in the country with the options you want, can't they do a bit of shopping around?

good things do come to those who wait...very true!
mate dw about it, the dealership can't do anything about it but wait.
ford actually have kicked out a few employees and have cut back on working time.
ie. less time working equals longer time to build car.
be patient mate.

The dealership has your deposit, the only thing they will understand is when you want it back to get the Holden.

Thanks for the encouragement guys. If and when I get it, I'm sure I'll enjoy it.

The thing that gets up my nose is Fords' attitude. I bought a Prado back in 2003 and wanted a rare colour and options. The only one they had in the whole country was in Adelaide. They shipped it to Sydney at their expense and it was in my driveway 10 days after I shook hands on the deal... A little of that customer service may help them stay afloat!

Your wait would be thru FPV wouldn't it?

I think they might want deposits on the FPV range before they build them going by the lack of them on the road.

i waited 6 weeks for my GT. The wait was long but the end result was great. So just be patient knowing that you hold the card.
If you don't get the car, the dealer don't get paid. It is in the dealer's best interest to get you the car as fast as they can.

Hi Johndec, you may need to enquire about this, but your delay could mean that you get stability control fitted to your ute as Ford is introducing it into the utes later this year (and maybe explains the delay).

It might not mean much but it could help resale down the track. Good Luck!

If the dealer wants the car bad enough it will get done. He just needs to pull his finger out of his .

It really annoys me that Ford are desperate to move these cars and these people really don't care. When I went to buy my XR6 Turbo the amount of dealers who really didn't want to lift a finger and just wanted a quick sale with no effort was amazing.

The dealer who got the sale was the one who actually did a tiny bit of work and actually seemed interested in going out of his way to sell me a car.

I say screw the bastards, ring around and I guarantee that if you will find another dealer that will go out of their way to get you what you want faster so they can get the sale, you just need to find the right guy.

Johndec.
If you like a car then you are willing to wait for it as long as it takes.
You are lucky to go into a dealer and order one.

I had to wait 4 month of looking everyday cause I wanted an ef/el manual green xr6 with sunroof.
It took me 1 year to find a TS50 manual, at the end I got possibly the only factory manual........... see good things come to those who wait.

To answer a few sensible posts at once:

XR CHIEF: They did but I wanted a September build for the DSC. The dealer had an order in for another model to run down the line in week 1 September but he it changed to my order. Unfortunately, this soon got pushed back and back and back due to reasons unknown!

CRAZED: See above

ZAK88: I had a big blow up today in the sales managers office with the salesman present. The salesman is also spewing as (from what I could gather) he was depending on this sale in September to reach some bonus level!! The sales manager is "escalating" my concern!!!!

10+ weeks (estimated) for my GT-P.

The really annoying thing... I'm renting a car in the meantime.

I can see why you would be annoyed, you were told three weeks and you only found out about the delay when you went in to the dealer to sign paperwork.

I have waited a while in the past but at least i was warned. Its pretty slack you had to chase them up to find out about the delay.

Others may tell you to 'get over it' or that they once waited 4 years for a blue Renault, however I bet if you had been given constant communication of the progress and some valid reasons for the delay you would be less annoyed. I think you have every right to be upset, especially when your spending that much money and were told you would have it now, and they still cant give you a delivery date.

Have you been given a SIDO number? Others on this forum would know more, but I assume that would give an idea of when (or if) it is scheduled to be built.

So the manager is doing all that is in his power and is also being disadvantaged by the delay but yet you still see fit to "blow up" at him. Why on earth would you do that?

do you think they are sitting on their butts at ford waiting on your order? production is planned well ahead and components are ordered to suit that run if you are fortunate enough to go to a dealer that has your specs coming through or has a switched on stock controller who can source one through another dealer you wait till the production cycle churns out your dream machine . simple as that

I would rather Ford take their time building the car I want rather than rushing something out the door, and having people complain...

EA anybody?

Admittedly, I cannot identify with you since I have never ordered a car before.

Yeah I doubt going off at a dealer is going to have any effect down in Broadmeadows for some strange reason.

The "butterfly effect" is lost on Ford strangely enough.

When we ordered our car we wanted to add an option. Ford said it couldn't be done as the order was locked in. After talking to the sales manager he managed to get it done. The dealer places the order and can monitor when build is taking place. If there is a delay then they should be able to tell him why.

@ Russell.. You are doing some very selective quoting... I said I blew up!! I didn't say I laid the blame on the dealership for the delay.

@au3whatever... Do I think they are sitting around waiting for MY order? No... But it would be nice if Ford as an entity has some way of giving reliable delivery dates rather than relying on the sales droid picking a random date out of the air to close a deal.

I'm starting to regret beginning this thread.

If he was promised a delivery time, then his rant is warranted. Let's see how your dad may feel when/if the "8 weeks" blows out to something a little more than that. Yes, the wait is worth it, like the posts before your's indicate, so give him credit for atleast appreciating this fact.

But remember his ute was for an order already in the system, his dealer told him that they will give him one which was already ordered and was scheduled be built first week of September, so if production is planned well ahead, components are already ordered, there shouldnt be a delay unless something has come up.

Hey im sure there are some valid reasons but it just seems like something is a bit off. Your definately right it will be just a matter of waiting for it to be churned out, at least it will be a good looking ute at that.
