Unhappy Brisbane Motor show cancelled

Just heard on the radio that the Brisbane motor show is cancelled for 2009 due to the credit crunch.

That would be right.

Not surprising though, considering the amount of manufacturers that didn't bother turning up last year.

Yep...

Shows how far backwards QLD is...

I went to melbourne instead last year, Brisbanes has always been a poor effort, especially when it comes to local manufacturers....

I suppose its getting harder for the suppliers to support all the car shows, especially when Melbourne and Sydney are fighting it out to be 'the' show for Aus. Credit squeeze or not, it just is very expensive and was bound to happen.

Yep and Sydney and Melbourne alternate years. Not enough return for the outlay.

definitely the way it will go, Melbourne one year, Sydney the next. that way all of the decent small manufacturers can afford it, From what iv'e heard at this moment, next years Melbourne show will only be getting BMW and VW, apart from that, only the jap/ Korean/ Aus manufacturers will be there

This year, the Melbourne Motor Show was quite poor in comparison to previous years, in my opinion. Some manufacturers were not there as they have been in previous years.

When the show used to be at the old Melbourne Exhibition Centre, it was grande.

Car shows are loosing their relevance now i think.. given that multiple brands seem to "clump" themselves closely together and the size and lay-out of most dealerships these days you can see everything you like on a sat arvo for free... and within a few mins walk or drive...

Pretty much. Nobody I know would use a car show as a method of deciding what car to buy... much better off visiting a dealership and driving one, etc.

The one and only time I visited the Brisbane Motor Show was a few years ago and that was only because the tickets were free. We were there for maybe 45 minutes and then decided to leave and go to the pub because it was more interesting.

I am still a fan of car shows, but must say the Melbourne Motor show was dismal this year. If it hadn't have been for the release of the FG I wouldn't have bothered going.
