Good mate of mine has just picked up himself a real nice Laser TX3 AWD fully equipped with all the usual goodies you'd expect. After chatting about the car for a little while he turns to me and says:
"i'm willing to bet my life savings that if you turbo'd your falcon, id still beat you at the lights to 60kph" Now i've driven another mates car which is identical to this one and i know that it's bloody quick but i'm now curious as to whether there could there be any truth in this statement? true to the fact that a Laser i think is about 400kg lighter than the trusty falcon (EF that i own for arguments sake). Thoughts? |

They have glass gearboxes and do not like launching, so I would say best of 3 runs as the box will explode.

Would it really matter what won to 60km/h? It would be over in 2 seconds. Just be a first gear shootout.
Over the quarter the Falcon would obviously kill it. Even NA it would be close. |

Safest and cheapest way to settle this (kind of) have a look through the time slip pages of this forum, find a couple of similar cars and you should get a good idea as to which is faster.
Failing that it might be worth finding out what his life savings are!!!

My last car was a KH TX3 4WD Turbo, i loved it! it had usual mods, exhaust, intercooler ,boost controller.. and it ran a 13.98! Great quick fun little car, wish i never sold it. But i sold it to get an xr6 turbo, which ran a 14.2 at the 1/4 mile.
Bad thing about the 4WD lasers is the gearbox. the front diff is as strong as butter. Thats the reason i sold mine for. i went through 3 box's and they are hard to find and expensive. |

the only reason i suppose he said 0-60 was because he was telling me how he was constantly draging Skylines and V8's at the lights and beating them all bla bla bla.
True, it's not really important, just a random thought |

a TX3 with the 1.8 turbo motor will give a WRX STI a VERY good run for its money with minimal mods
they also handle great with near on 50-50 torque split and wieght split is quite good also fordlaser.com has alot of info if you want to find out how quick they are there is a couple in the 12s from memory running FWD due to the glass gearboxes ...

There is a reason why the standard benchmark for straightline performance is 400metres...far more meaningful than a 1st gear race. Take him down to the drags and flog him...and then race him :P
