I just had the scheduled service 30,000 kms done on my sisters LS Focus.
I did an oil change 7,500kms ago and I put Castrol Edge Sport 5w-30 fully syn. Ford have put GTX professional 10w-30. Is this a fully syn oil? If this is not a fully syn oil do i need to change it to a fully syn oil? Can any damage occur to the engine oil going the other way around as in a fully synth oil to mineral. I forgot to tell her for them to put fully syn oil in the car. Also an engine flush was done to the car, what type of oil is this? The service was only done today. |

The engine flush is just a money making scheme and is completely unnecessary. Don't pay for it unless you agreed to the dealer doing it.

Half the time running a fully synthetic oil in a normal passenger car is just a waste of money. Semi synthetic oils are most likely the norm for being used on engines of this type and age. I change my oil at 7500km with Magnatec and its due for 15000 but I wont go through a dealer, prob through Ultratune or likes of due to the dealer being a complete fraud up here. There shouldn't be a need to run a heavy mineral based oil considering the age of the engines.
Some people swear by running Fully Synthetic oils in their commuter cars, but in my eyes it isn't neccessary and half the time they just think it makes their car go faster.

I dont believe it will damage the engine, but if you are to go for something mineral based then try and stick with something that is the same weight as the full synthetic you put in the engine, but something about 5w-30 or 10w-30

Im going to take the gamble and see, as the engine only had about 7,500 kms on the fully syn so the new mineral oil from the service should be fine |

it's not ideal to switch back and forth, but it's ok as long as the two oils are compatible (check with the manufacturer) Fully synth oils are good, but for a street car, they only serve to extend your service intervals. If it'll do 15k on a standard oil, it'll do 30k on a good synth.

Thanks, I just checked on the castrol web site and it had 2 points:
-Compatible with normal mineral oils. -May be topped up or mixed with normal mineral oils. Note: Use of conventional oils for top up will reduce the performance of Castrol Edge 5W-30. |
