http://www.news.com.au/comments/0,23...019120,00.html
Interesting comments. What do you reckon, did they land on the moon or was it a set up ??

I find it strange that 40 years on, they can't put a man back on the moon. The technology in 1969 was totally prehistoric compared to today, so why can't they do it now.
The Russians knew it couldn't be done due to the huge amounts of radiation that the astronauts would have been exposed to. It would have killed them within minutes!
Totally bogus.

One of my theories is they went on the moon but for some reason the footage may have been damaged/insufficient so faked some.

And a bit of trivia.

An iconic image from the Apollo 11 mission. Noone realized it until after the mission was flown, but the this is the one and only high quality still photo of Neil Armstrong on the surface of the moon.
There's a twist to the pic. What is it?

The twist is that it is actually a photo of Buzz Aldrin!! Neil Armstrong appears in Aldrins's visor reflection!!!

Isnt that because Neil Armstrong held the camera and took all of the shots?

Uh, it isn't because they can't. It's because there is no point... There are plenty of people in space right now...

Whats with all the + symbols all over the pic??

I have been to the moon..... Wait...Sorry no,that was a night on Acid in Rye.!!

When I was at the kennedy space centre I went in to the saturn V rocket exhibition ( that mother is HUGE) anyway, there is a display cabinet there with a piece of "moon rock" for you to touch/feel through golves. Man this thing would have been the size of a 50c coin. but weight was like a house brick.

Quote:
As Soviet Union mastered manned space flight in a series of early orbital missions, the Moon quickly became a key goal of the manned space program. In May 1961, President Kennedy proclaimed a manned landing on the surface of the Moon before 1970, as the main goal of the US space program.

However, it took more than three years after Kennedy's challenge for the cash-strapped Soviet government to commit needed resources for the Moon Race. "Do not leave the Moon to the Americans," Nikita Khrushchev reportedly told leaders of the Soviet rocket industry, "Anything you need in order to do it, will be provided." On Aug. 3, 1964, the Soviet government finally gave full go ahead to the lunar landing effort.

However, the development of a heavy-lifting launcher, needed for the lunar expedition, was plagued with political and technical problems. Powerful captains of the Soviet rocket industry fought for the leadership and influence in the program, stretching the project's already limited resources, while the Soviet military, which financed rocket development, had always remained skeptical about the prospects of giant space launchers.

The fall of Khrushchev in 1964, further delayed the program, which continued suffering from the lack of funds and resources. In 1966, the Soviet lunar program recieved another blow with the death of its legendary leader, Sergei Korolev.

The N1 moon rocket had not reached the launch pad until 1969, and its first and three subsequent test missions ended in catastrophic failures, revealing serious technical flaws in the design of the booster. The program was finally abandoned in 1974 and its leader Vasily Mishin was ousted as a head of the industrial conglomerate responsible for the project.

We walked on the moon. We're about to confirm it, yet the clueless morons will still doubt it.

It was a race. If the Americans lost, the Russians would have been screaming loudly. The moon landing happened and subsequent moon landings also happened, those that tried to debunk it, failed. The same dopes that will attempt to debunk the passby that confirms it will attempt to debunk it again.

Of course its true. If it isn't, the fact it has been covered up by 10's of 1000's of people that would have to be involved or known ..... and still no proof after all these years it is a con ..... ? Surely someone by now would have come fourth with something.

I believe it happened as well. One of the things that was at that time impossible to fake was the source of the radio signals received on earth.

Lots of amateur radio enthusiasts listened to the down links directly via home made high gain directional antennas. The had to be pointed at the moon with is a different angle from all over the world (when it is visible). These are not just americans but almost every nationality so there is no chance of a government conspiracy.

i dont know if we went there or not . i want to believe we did .
a couple of things give me doubt though . the talks from neil armstrong for instance dont seem very exciting . and if you listen you can hear a double meaning to everything he says about it .
the pictures have me doubting too . , there is like a talcom dust oin those pics about 100mm deep . yet nothing on the moon lander especially the feet. and it looks like there are 2 people in the reflection of the visor . one in a space suit , the other a shadow . !!!

Remember watching this live on tv from liftoff to splashdown, the landing on the moon would have to be the greatest feat in human endeavour....

One of the main reasons they stopped going to the moon was after the novelty wore off, the bean counters stepped in and decided it was a waste of money which would be better spent on healthcare etc etc....

Money being spent elsewhere, perhaps a reason?

I certainly believed it happened.

Was every photo real. Well, the Americans are #1 at hiding things and so I suppose some of the pics could have been fake. But as for the lunar landing itself, I have no problem believing it was real.

i don't think it happend only because i watched a doco ages ago on a certain type of radiation between the moon and earth that is so powerful and as someone said earlier that it would have killed them in minutes.

the solution was (from memory) led walls 2 meters thick all round to keep em safe, but that was not practical in an environment where gravity exists, like the earth or moon. they would be able to take off.

I heard the same can be said for a manned mars voyage.

A fantastic effort at anytime, but this was an awesome event given the technology and near catastrophies.

In recent years I have been privileged to befriend one of the project leaders of the Apollo missions; a man brought up in rural America in a dirt floored house, no electricty, horse&cart. He went from scrounging heating coal from the rail tracks as a boy, served in Vietnam and on to the space programme and beyond. He epitomises the can do attitude the Americans had in the sixties and why they succeeded in walking on the moon.

yes your right . however i have never seen a ufo , ghost ,extraterestrial ,other planet, space craft, outer space, or moon surface.
and i know of no one who can convince me for or against on any of these . even scientists dispute both arguments on any one topic .
the only certainty i have learnt in my 40 years is uncertainty.
