Red face Ummm.......Horny?? LOL (Its G rated!!)

Hey Guys,

Im new here. I have had a poke around and this site looks really kewl and very very useful.

Congrats to all to created! :

However I do have a problem. My falcon ute is a bit horny you could say! LOL

I was at a mates today and tooted goodbye as you do, but my horn got stuck!! hahaha Alot I was not really laughing at the time!! I think there was a few choice words that came out of my mouth!!

So I pulled the 15 amp fuse outta the fuse box under the bonnent and headed to my father in laws place. We tested the fuse and the rely. They are all good. So we are 99% sure that the problem is in the stering wheel itself! :( *sigh*

So I was wondering if any one can tell me, coz with the EL model faclon's of the air bag goes off the car is a write off.

Is that the same with the AU's?? Mine is a July 1999 model.

A mate told me you can take the cover off without the airbag setting off. But Im very uncertine about it.

So I called one of my good mates who is a walking Ford Mannuel! LOL

He said that you can do it bit he has never been game enough to try it.

He suggested that I should spray some laniol spray under the cover some how. Something that is rubber and wiring proof.

I cant get hold of my auto elec till Monday arvo.

If I can somehow fix it with out being told its going to cost "X" amount of dollars I will be happy as a pig in.....yeh you get the point.

Please guys any one out there could you recomend me something????

Cheers
DJ Meth :dj:

Mine gets stuck once a year - particularly in very humid weather. It's got to do with the foam in it decaying or something. I just give it a hit to unstick it, it's not worth the effort imo to fix it. Worst comes to worst i just pull out the relay for 24hrs and it's all good.

Happened in my ED Fairmont once, I had to remove the horn contactor plate in the steering wheel pad, and replace the sponge surface. I used a Vileda Jiffy cloth, it was the exact width, so i made a template, did a little cutting, used a basic adhesive and job done, Horn never failed again.

I had this horney problem with an old UC torana I used to own. I fitted it with a VC commodore steering wheel and on a hot day the centre would expand the the horn would sound. Unfortunatley I had air horns on it and copped a few fines for disturbing the peace!

A common fix I see around here is a remote button mounted in the dash.

this happened to me once on my old EF - my instant fix was to slam the steering wheel with my fist out of frustration, I felt it stick on when I pressed it, and nobody likes their horn jamming on, makes you look like idiot

just disconect the battery.

I think the mail reason an EL gets written off when the bag goes pop is cause the bag is worth more than the car.
