Default Best 6 Aussie Ford Muscle Cars vs. Holden's best 6 Muscle Cars

I'm conducting a poll to find out the top 6 Ford and Holden aussie muscle cars blokes would like to drive the most.

I have a bet with my mate that they would be as follows:

1. XY GT
2. XB GT coupe
3. XC Cobra
4. XE ESP 351
5. FPV F6
6. FPV GT

1. Torana A9X Hatch
2. Brock VK Group A
3. Torana XU1
4. Walkinshaw VL
5. Monaro HG
6. HSV VS GTS-R

I'm keen to find out what others reckon coz he owes me 4 slabs of beer of I win.

Maybe it all depends on when you grew up...
or maybe which era you are from...

i am being raised in the day and age of the BA falcon and onwards, so the cars in my list reflect that. obviously, i included the torana because i acknowledge it as a true muscle car, and the VK for that reason too, the XB is a no brainer but then i've been lucky enough to drive one and have a connection with them, the VS i acknowledge was a serious machine when it came out(GTSR) and was very rare too(still is) as is the TS50. the F6 is a no brainer, its very fast, already has a bit of a cult following and just because its a 6, doesnt mean it can't be a muscle car. there is no set in stone law that dictates that muscle cars must be V8's. the XRGT was the first ever GT and as such paved ford's way...another no brainer. my explenation for old and new in my list, just remember, when Phase 3's etc etc where new, they where probably considered "too new school" for all the old heads with the flathead V8's and such and such. everything is new at some stage

iggypoppin - luvd the feedback. i grew up mostly in the 80's, however my dad had an XY during the 70's (im 38 yo)
so my fondest memories stretch over a longer period.
i love the 70's and 80's cars as a result, however as more than a decade has passed since the 90's, Im starting to reflect more fondly on the 90's muscle cares. Personally I loved the XR8 Sprint, the EB GT and EL GT era. The E series are starting to look a bit retro now... and kinda cool and tuff.

im twenty, so my only memories are of dads VS SS-when you're 7 or 8 and dad comes home with the brand new V8, you wet your pants just looking at it. back then he talked about the GTSR and how, if he had the money, he'd have got one. it stuck!! when i finally read up on it, i knew it was the goods.

same with the TS50. too late in the AU stable it reared its head, yet with a 250kw stroker engine, it cemented its(small) place in the muscle car history books..at least for me.

the XB GT is my favourite, of course. i was 13 when dad's mate owned it and took me for a spin. i was never more in love(and i still have the photos!) and still am. number one for me.

the other cars, i believe, are just deserving of the spots i gave them. just opinion though!

Dont think the XE ESP should rate in there. Just a Fairmont V8 with modded suspension isnt it? 16 second quarter mile.

fair point windsor. however it was still the basis for Dick Johnsons famous Greens Tuf XE and the only Ford muscle car of the 80's.
I own one, and you would be amazed at the level of interest in the XE ESP...
also dont forget it was the last of the big bangers - the 5.8 litre 351 Clevo!!

Yeah no doubt its one of the collectables. Just dont think it would be in the top 6.

My list
XR GT
XY GTHO Phase 3
XA GTHO Phase 4
XC Cobra Bathurst Special
AU T3 TS50
FPV FG F6

Honourable mentions: XW GTHO Phase 2, EB XR6, ED XR8 sprint, EL GT and the yet to be released FPV FG GT supercharged 5.0

and a different interior and body moldings and what not, there was actually a fair bit of work that went into ESP's more then just a Ghia with a sticker pack...

i mean some could argue the XC Cobra was just a V8 with a sticker pack...

unfortunatly, the ESP had a whole host of emissions control gear bolted onto its 351...a sad and sorry fate for the hailed cleveland.

Not sure how you can not have the XY GTHO Ph3 in your list (the greatest muscle car in aussie history), but hey it is your list.

I am going to go with.

XR GT (the genesis)
XW GTHO
XY GTHO Ph3
XB GT Coupe
XC Cobra
XE ESP (based more on DJR than road models)

I have not put down the FG Coyote because it does not exist yet, I also have not included cars that did not hit production, as far as I am concerned only "have been" should count, not could have been. I have also not counted any F6 as to me they are not really a "muscle car".

Holden.

HK GTS 327 (Holdens first attack against ford and the beginning of the war)
HG GTS 350 (the last of the true monaro's)
L34
A9X
VK Grp A
W427

I've got the Ph4, considering the PH3 is superior to the PH2, the PH4 one would assume is...

I guess so, just depends how you look at it I suppose. I have not considered cars that were not actually released.

To do so would require the inclusion of cars such as the Holden Hurricane and XU2 Torana.

well technically the PH4 was released... there was one built and it wasn't a prototype so it kind of is a legit model...
