Default 03 Focus - Grinding noise when clutch is being released.

Hi Gents,

My mrs has a 2003 Focus 1.8, Manual 68,000kms and recently in the morning when it's cold and she engaged first gear or reverse and attempts to release the clutch, there is a really annoying grinding noise.

It only happens when the clutch is in the process of being released.

What is this problem? Is the clutch gone? and how much would it cost to fix?

Cheers.

Also one more thing, how much do you guys recon she would get if we did a trade in? 5-6k?? or more?

2003 Focus Sedan
1.8lt Manual 5 speed.
Sedan
68,000kms
Immaculate condition
Driven like a grandma to work, which is 5mins away at our local council.

Thanks again.

Sounds like the throw out bearing is gone

When the car sits on idle it makes a weird noise as well, but when I push the clutch in that noise goes.

Maybe you are right it could be the throw out bearing.

mmm when you disengage the clutch (push the clutch pedal in) pressure is on thrust bearing(usually makes noise) input shaft stops rotating (input shaft bearing will stop making noise).
So when you let foot off clutch input shaft will start to spin, maybe its the input shaft bearing.
