Hi Dave,

The Capri V6 workshop manual says to tighten the main cap bolts "evenly" to 55-60 lbs/ft, probably in stages. I'm not aware of a specific order, but seasoned engine builders may have their own tips. The manual also states crankshaft 'end float' on these should be between 0.003 and 0.011 in.

There is another rebuild article which I found a while ago which states 76-83 lbs/ft and end float of 0.003 to 0.006 in, although that rebuild was for the D-port version of the engine.

Cheers
Jamie

Do you mean the tightening sequence?, if so to avoid bending of the crank and block work clock wise from the centre cap to the outside in a circular pattern, i normally start with a 3/8 drive air ratchet and move to a torque wrench but i stagger the torque in thirds, i.e if the final torque is 90 Nm, do the first circle at 30 Nm then 60 Nm then the final 90 Nm.

As a starting point, cap number 2 (from the front) holds the thrust washers.

From memory the caps are marked 1 to 4, which would be front to back, but I haven't pulled one of these apart for a while.
