There have been post that the disc rotors need replacing at around 40,000kms.
My WQ Fez had its 60,000km service today and the rotors are good. Service said "they should last as long as the pads" I know Euro cars have softer rotors than Aussie cars..or is it just unlucky some cars get "softer" rotors than others??? The service cost $535 thats, spark plugs (platinum), fuel/oil/air filter. and brake fluid change. Service was by Kmart. Would have been $435 with standard plugs.

Depends how hard you are on the brake pedal, depends how long rotors and pads last.....There is no set kilometre figure on how long these items will last...

A wheel alignment fixes everything, when it comes to front end issues. This includes any little noises. My rotors went just before 40K. Ford said that was ok cos the car is European (which is bs: it's not the 80s anymore... Insignia rotors lasted 100K MILE on EVO mags long term demo car, but anyways).... Replaced with aftermarket rotors and bendix pads - huge improvement in pedal feel and braking performance... $275 all up from local brake specialist, Ford wanted almost triple...
My WS 60K service cost just over $150 all up at local mechanic I've been using for years, bought full synth oil, plugs at Repco during sales, only paid for 45 min labour cos that's how long it took (the 2hrs Ford quotes is again bs).... Only thing you need from the dealer is the oil filter $9 as Ryco ain't making them yet.. (I've got a KN air filter, the Fords is only $30 anyways). Big price difference. That's why I'd never touch any chain store (kmart, Midas, ultratune, Ford dealer) unless you want to burn $$... |

What the heck do you do to your car Fiesta_man??? My 09 WS has 85K on it with original pads and rotors. Had them both checked by my trusted local mechanic at 75k and he said they'll be fine 'till 90k.

My brakes were still fine at the 105k service.
I don't seem to brake as much as other cars I see on the road though.

I don't drive in heavy traffic, do about 30K a year. Don't drive hard either - as a comparison I had a mirage yrs ago and didn't to change the rotors til just over 150K... Rotors in the gtr lasted longer than the Fiesta too. A unique car, for many reasons....

My 09 WS fiesta front brakes are all good as we dont drive it enought by the sound of things. Got it new and has 45,000kms on the clock.

I'll probably service my WS myself now its out of warranty, oil and filters are **** easy, but I might take it to my mechanic for hand brake adjustment and brake fluid flush.

Big Damo...I used to do all my own servicing..but now on wrong side of 60..too lazy!!!! and its only once a year..And the air filter is xxxxx to change (16 screws!!) and get off the rocker cover!!! Prefer someone else to do it!!

I changed the rotors and pads on our WS at ~154,000kms. The pads were nearly done on the inside pads?. Probably could have stretched them another 10,000ks but they were quite worn. The Rotors I believe could have very easily gone 200,000km but they are cheap so I changed them anyway.
Next job is the timing belt, I figure I'l do it at around 175,000. I know it is supposed to be done at 150,000 but at only 3 years old and the car having an average speed of 70 something km/h over it's life. I'm sure I can delay the belt a bit more than the the average car. |

I change the filter on the lawn with the nose of the car overhanging the sunken dirt driveway. It's the only way I can easily reach under the car. I wouldn't say it's an easy filter to change... couple of pipes in a very annoying spot right beside it. Worse if it's dark.. or raining or both. All of which I've come across! in my many oil changes on this Fiesta : ).
You try a Holden V8 and you will see easy oil change... Takes about 5 seconds, filter has 100% access and is staring you in the face. |

I checked my pads in the other thread I made on servicing the car, pads are fine with 38,000km on the clock, probably 70% left.

the reason i ask is usually on a service there are a lot more things done, obviously on a fwd and modern cars there are less to do, but still usually a book service even a simple one also checks other things even though you don`t know it`s been done , like wipers for correct operation, check lights,all fliuds and top up, have a glance for oil leaks and report, check accessories belt, exhaust, a look at the tyres/pressures and anything that looks amiss,
if brakes are mentioned then they would get attention as well, in the old days you would take your car away from a good service place even on a basic lube and you`d notice all the door hinges /striker plates lubed/bonnet /boot catch/hinges,door hold slide, cables , linkages, you would actually notice these things as doors /bonnet would feel smoother when opening /closing,suspension may be a bit quieter due to being greased. the point i am trying to make is the service is a very different thing in different workshops, i used to do these for a living as a young bloke and you don`t always get value when it`s cheap, sadly sometimes when it`s expensive too, and a lot of the time owners don`t know how much of the book service is actually being done, or don`t know what should be done.. Yes: wiper fluid, coolant etc gets topped up and there's all those visual checks - I was just naming the major items. Finding a mechanic you can trust and sticking with them is about the best thing you can ever do as an enthusiast...

very true mate, there are some slackers out there, even some unscrupulous buggers as well, i can remember my old Aunty telling me stories about one of her many husbands she used to fight with(lol) who was a mechanic and used to brag about doing shifty stuff, like wiping the oil filters down with a petrol soaked rag and charging people for them, don`t worry he`s long since gone , but sadly there are people out there like this in the community.

i was looking online at http://www.european-parts.net but the shipping was over 100 euro (more then the cost of the discs) |

Oh yes, I forgot about that. Just got caught up researching around.
I'm settling on buying from Matt Pearce at Race Sydney Brakes. He quoted $80 for set of REMSA pads and $45 for Fremax rotors. I'm not sure if they're slotted. I still don't know what the primary difference is between slotted and normal rotors (and if there are any real benefits). But will give him a call again to ask and make an order. Will let you guys know. I was wondering what anyone else did for servicing? Do you buy your own products and send them to a local mechanic? Drew |
