Default E85- Custom Tune

Hey Chris and Theo,

Just have a question about the E85 ethanol fuel, is there any advantages of retuning the boss to take this type of fuel??
i know some of the turbo guys are using this fuel, but just wondering about any gains for the V8?

Cheers Andrew

Hey Mate,

we have found under 11.5-12:1 compression on an NA V8 to be where E85 starts to be of benefit. Below that compression, its really not worth it, and unfortunatley the 290-302-315 family dont have enough comp.

Hope things are well mate

Theo

Hi Theo,
Just a follow up question on the E85 tune. The fg 5.4 315, what is the comp on these? From my understanding from what your saying is that the comp on a 315 is to low for the benifits of E85 and too high for s/charger. Have I got this right or not.
Cheers Leroy

With a N/A engine the air charge is not heated up so the cooling effect from the ethanol is less and this is why we see very little gain if any from E85.

We run E85 in our race car (302 short, BPR Race Spec heads and BPR Custom grind Cams from Crow Cams, 380Kw N/A) all this does for us is gives more consistant KW figures on the dyno, we only drop like 2-3 Kw across 10 runs in a row, where with pump fuel we see more like a 10kw drop across 10 runs..
