Heading up to Sydney for a concert on the 31st. Wheres the best place to stay? Show is at Darling Harbour, ideally want to drive to hotel, park car and either walk or cab to the show. Only overnight stay.
Any suggestions?

There are prob 2 dozen places within 5-10 min walk. Because of this service is great and prices are reasonable. I stayed at a few and all were above expectations.
Parking could be costly if you are using the hotel so if you are up for a little research you can park in one of the many parking stations and save some $. Look em all up, look at their reviews across a few sites and take it from there. The 'last minute' style sites are great for discounts as well.

We go to Sydney for shows and we stay at Metro on the corner of campbell st. Walking distance to ent cent, darl harb, Capitol theatre opposite, chinatown on the way to dh. Its not fancy and its not expensive. They have room and breakky packages which I like. If you join Metro they will send email deals. Parking is under world square 100mtrs away I think at $25 extra but cant remember. They are also on the usual wotifslastminute sites or book direct through metro. Have fun, what are you seeing.

Taking the better half to Matchbox 20, think I'm more excited about INXS opening for them.
Cannot believe the cost of parking at some of these places!

go to wotif.com and take the mystery booking.
we did for the motor show next weekend. they guaranteed a CBD hotel minimum 4 stars for 110 bucks a night. we got the 5 star Sofitel normally 270 a night...for 110......absolute bargain. |

Re parking, casual parking costs a bomb but most hotels have a deal with the nearby parking station and its about $25 bucks. Some hotels have deals which include the parking.

If you want to do it on the cheap you can stay a little out of town, park on the street and train it in / out. Also, don't dismiss the youth hostels. They almost all have double / queen private rooms with ensuite and are much cheaper than the branded hotels. It all depends on your budget and comfort level in the end. Also... if you want to really splash out look into 'Romance packages'. Extended check out / in times, bottle of wine + chocolates on arrival and sometimes breakfast as well. Nice way to end your visit ;) and keeps you in the good books with the better half ;)

Have stayed in the city after a decent night out for a work function in DH.
Stayed at the IBIS as well ... pretty sure parking was included in it. short walk around and that was it. Made the night enjoyable and I didn't have to drive home after the event either.

Other half ended up booking some place called the Cambridge Hotel, bit further away than I wanted to be but we will cab it to and from the show then just take off the next morning. I hate Sydney with a passion but will manage this trip.

I've stayed at the Travelodge @ Wynyard for work before. Short walk from there to Darling Harbour and the rocks.
You can catch the train from the airport to Wynyard station and the hotel is across the road from it. It's your basic hotel but it suffices.
