Just heard this on the midday news.
Was expecting them to say a commodore or falcon, but no, its the worlds fastest washing machine: http://www.perthnow.com.au/news/west...-1226741088933 A MAN has had his car impounded after he was allegedly caught speeding 101km/h above the speed limit in Alexander Heights overnight. Police officers were on patrol just after 11pm when they saw the vehicle travelling at high speed on Hepburn Avenue near Marangaroo Drive. It will be alleged the vehicle, a Toyota Camry sedan, was detected doing 171km/h in a 70 zone. The vehicle was stopped by police and has been impounded for 28 days. The 25-year old driver from Redcliffe has been summonsed for reckless driving. He will appear in court at a later date

Cops love going down that road. If he actually hit 171 he would have had to put his foot down a while back. Pretty stupid considering all the side streets that come off it.

Ah, a bit clearer once the article was read, I immediately thought, " How can a Camry do 200 km/h?"

Honestly? People think a modern four cylinder car can't crack 170kph?
Come on...modern fours are more powerful than :high performance" V8's of twenty or thirty years ago. |

Never under estimate the Camry in particular the current hybrid. Have one as a daily drive and it gets to the speed mentioned reasonably quick for what it is not on a public road. Not down hill either.
Out of the box they do 0-100 in 8.0-8.5 seconds. |

My 03 V6 Sportivo was quite capable of hitting 160km/h when overtaking road trains, it did it with ease, only issue was unlike my Fairmont, it felt dangerous lol.

got to laugh how people think because its a Camry it wont move quickly!!! the only thing wrong with Camry's is that there boring and bland style. however, they are very capable of reaching licence losing speeds. I know the V6 3L in the 1998 model is very capable of dispatching a stock EL, AU Falcon 6 and VT commodore V6. I've had an 89 Camry with twin cam 4 cylinder 2L and 5 speed manual at 170km/h, wasn't exactly struggling either.
