I'm in a struggle to decide what car to keep long term. I have an 04 xr6 turbo. It's very clean. Had one business manager owner before me. It's a great car n is hard now to find unmolested xr6 turbos
I'm considering should I buy and bf r spec for the long keep? Mostly I'm thinking if money spent vs later value which is def hard to predict what will happen. I want to have 350-400 rwkw at some point. Now a my ba is worth 10-12 I'm guessing. R spec 22-25. That extra 10k will make the ba out perform. But it will always be a ba. R spec prob put another 8k or so onto for mods and be happy. So total 20k vs 30+. Ba prob always worth 8-10. R spec worth maybe always 16-20 in 10 years. Options on what is the better choice to keep 10 yrs+ ? |

Hard to find unmolested XR6Ts......so you want to molest one that is unmolested.....just an observation
IMO If you want to invest in a car for the future then buy the best lowest km unmolested r- spec you can find, don't modify it, stick it in the garage, drive on the occasional sunny w/end. Best investment value will always be stock, low kms, with history. I think BF r-spec turbo will be a sought after a car in a few years, great time to grab one. Oh forgot.....buy a s/box falcon to drive around in |

No I don't want to find a clean car to modify. There is more then one option. One clean keeper the other to modify. I have a ba. Considering a bf r spec. Just throwing possibilities in the air. Maybe I wasn't clear. Are modifications always considered to be molested?
Business manager - mature age. My point is he's not going to maccas on a fri night to do donuts. It would be good if u contributed instead of an underlying statement of "just cause he is a business manager doesn't mean he can't destroy a car". It's less likely. Anyway.. |

This could also be a discussion on modified long term value vs stock. Like said above a collector will want stock. Always the case? An example is the two phase 6 falcons. Red and green. One has the inline 6 turbo. Dunno bout the red. Not stock tho I would think still hold value?

Depends on what you are looking to get out of it? What do you want to do with the car for 10 years? And after that are you looking for best resale or just having a old(er) car you're proud to own?
As a general rule, cars are not a good "financial" investment. A GTHO perhaps, if you'd kept it for 40 years. But if you want a car to love and enjoy, that will become even more desirable, then the advice would be as follows: Look for something already around 10 years old, that has already lost most of its new value. Go for the "worst house on the best street." ie Pick a car that is a rare model, with rare features, but is not necessarily the lowest kms or most pristine. Lows kms are always good, but if your choice is between a pristine low km XR8, or a high km GT-P for the same money, go the latter. |

Hey Bishy I am in the same boat as you. My 04 XR6T is totally stock too and I am weighing up options too.
The only problem with it is the weight of the clutch. In peak hour traffic my knee gives out after a while from pushing the clutch in. If I was to get a FH (or whet ever it will be called) would a BA be worth keeping or are they too close together age wise?

Personally im not a fan of buying modded cars from joe average, for a couple of reasons.
the first being often a modded car will have a good chance of the kyber thrashed out of it, the second , joe average often does a half assed job moddifying/looking after his car imo. If im looking at a car and it has go faster mods , it's by by joe bloggs ..... its cya later. |

I reckon one of the last FH Falcon ute's, turbo or non turbo won't matter, manual of course!
Put that away as you won't get more Australian than that & I reckon in 20-30 years time, that will be pretty cool!

8k for that sale sounds cheap. Looking on car sales there bit more. Anyway that's another discussion.
I love my car interior n how it drives. R spec has road presence. Another thought. I paid 12,500 a year ago for mine. Will it ever be. 5000 car? What's the thoughts on an r spec being stock as well drop to ? 10? Not so much investment talk as such but rather less of a loss and value for money over time. |

Yes I know $8K seems low but the advertised prices on carsales are not what the cars are selling for.
I think you should keep your quality XR6T and look for another car to get the big power. A keeper and a hotty will be 2 different cars. If you mod a good BA XR6 (or any other car) then its value drops dramatically. This is because the market for modded cars is very small as a much lesser number of buyers will risk a modded car. On the other hand, mint condition cars of any sort are worth a premium. |

Note there are a few t series cars for sale on carsales with upwards of 200000km on them. The owners talking them up and wanting a hefty price.
Anyone that reads the ad will think they are going to see a new car but arrive to see a clapped out old falcon. The car will barely last another 2 years let alone being around in 20 years when they might be rare and desirable. |

In looking through Car Sales at all the options in the Ford Stable for sale, does anyone think a Force 8 could be a candidate to speculate on for the long term? Something different.
