Default impressive vf hsv 340kw clubsport.. a worthy alternative.

A family member of mine bought a brand new vf hsv clubsport. He optioned up the 340kw option.

I was a little dismissive at first, why didnt you buy the fpv GT or f6? Or the chrysler srt8?

but I took the car for a spin earlier today. Interior is well ahead of the ford/fpv, prob more jazzed up than the chrysler too. A good bit of kit inside.

the car has the mild bootlid type rear spoiler and looks very nice. Its much more subtle than the old ve series 3 autobarn GTS.

car has ample grunt, the ls3 is an awesome powerplant, sounds tough and feels like a big motor up front. 0-100km/h is pretty much flat 5s and woukd do a flat 13 second quarter or maybe even dip into the 12s.

I know the fpv and srt8 has been demonstrated as quicker but is it that much quicker? Noticable??

When you step back and think about what you get... you cant argue with a ls3 6.2 litre v8, 340kw is massive power and 550nm of torque.

this buyer is unlikely to do any mods but a ls3 makes for a evil base to mod. Easy power to be made here and will more than hold its own in any company.

I was very impressed with the car and willing to concede I would just about buy it over the srt8 or fpv GT/f6 despite the alledged performance gap.. surely its not that much anyway.

great all round car. A very serious contender in this market space. I could only imagine how nice the LSA hsv GTS would be.

Can we ban Hulk yet?

The '340kw' is hardly massive power, they won't do 12s stock and in the real world a FG XR6T makes them look stupid.

The clubsport has been the BA XR8 of the Australian performance range since 2006.
XR6T's faster & cheaper, money talks Holden drivers walk.

The lip spoiler looks off for a muscle car, they don't even let you option the other spoilers.

I also honestly don't get all the bravado for the interior. I think it's ok, but nothing super special.

Edit: the gts I get it, the senator I get it, both good cars, this club sport I just don't. It's like the special cousin of the family.

Holden for the first time, build a car with a good interior and everyone is mesmerized by it?Sure it makes ok power however it is not a GTS in handling or performance. On the dyno these 340 kw Holdens make less than the FG F6!
Wait for the XR8 if you want a V8 and then make up your mind.

I agree, the spoilers on the SS stands out so much more.
The HSV one looks sort of wimpy.

And when you see real world drivers at Eastern Creek running 14s in 6 Litre SS Commodores, and mid 13s in HSV variants, you realise they are pretty ordinary for their claimed power output.

When Ford announced no XR8 ute, and with my XR50t nearly 4 years old, I looked at the 340 Maloo.
Couldn't find a Maloo to test drive, but drove a clubby..
Jumped back into my turbo thinking..
1/. I should be horse-whipped to even consider swapping camps, and
2/. Just how blessed we really are to have our turbo utes.
My impressions were.. Insipid, uninspiring and lame!

Big fat LOL at 340kw only being "decent power" brand slaves are crazy. Not a fan of the rear end on these but they're a great car to drive with plenty of power, and contrary to the blue bloodeds belief their isn't some huge performance gap in the real world. The HSV's far superior chassis and immense power can't be sneezed at.

I didn't say I was running out to buy one. Just that I was dismissive like many of you until I drove the car. Very very nice. More than enough performance.

I at the people slagging off a ls3 340kw, especially considering what they drive.

They are a great car and should be seriously considered when looking at fpv or Chrysler srt8

Yep.. I drove one and I think they are great. Unless you have a stop watch handy, you would be lucky to pick the performance differential between hsv/fpv/srt8

They are very very close.. We know how good the f6 is and these hsv cars are on par, even the VE. Plus the new VF (the car I drove) has 340kw, better interior, looks and other upgrades.. So a better car than the one tested in the clip that equalled the f6

I'm not criticising fpv or srt8, just saying I'm impressed with the hsv, I initially dismissed it but I think it's right on par with GT335/f6 or srt8

I agree with the slagging off bit, but alas HSV have done themselves no favours over stating the power output on their cars. So the 340 is probably much less. (i havnt bothered to look at HSV power runs/vids, so i could be wrong)

Hulk your hypotheticals and random observations are getting a little draining. Nothing personal. Occasionally they will start a reasoned conversation as this thread may have done if posted by someone actually cross shopping. Instead it just turns into a spit fight as many of your threads will. Not sure if that's your aim or not but it can be frustrating.

These things may suit a BBQ but only 10% end well here.

Dyno figures are basically pointless. Only a fool brags about the pretty number on a computer screen, what really matters is performance. Quarter Mile times, track times, 0-100 all the fun stuff. You can have 500kw in a car but if its too heavy, cant access the power or just cant put the power down through the wheels whats the point? A 300kw car thats set up well will generally outperform a 350kw car thats set up badly.

Dyno Queens are just that...
