With the current goings on with this I suspect this thread will be locked fairly quickly, quite a sensitive topic.

I was going to start something similar to this when Queensland Rail locked down bin use at its CBD stations however on the advice of the mods I decided against it.

Tragic, wasteful and concerning for all involved. Especially the local community.
We all need to be objective about the whole thing. Lots of rhetoric and media frenzy.
Difficult times ahead methinks......

Very frightening times ahead for Australia I believe. Although this is the beginning we are seeing a lot of rage and potential attacks happening very quickly...

The world is a rapidly changing place and we have some concerning times ahead, my thoughts with the Police officers involved.

Sadly i feel its only a matter of time before one of these people are successful and that will sadly change our way of life forever.

A big Thank you to anyone involved in our Army, Police or Anti Terrorism forces at this time.

I understand why people are fearful, but the reality is that the chances of anyone person being caught up in a terrorist act in Aust, are a hell of a lot less than lightning strike deaths are here (4 -5 a year btw and most of those are indirect hits).

Terrorists real ammunition here is fear. They don't deserve that. Concern sure, fear no.

Thankfully the police involved are ok, but for some perspective, how many police officers are stabbed every year?

I praise the police doing their job in these difficult times, now watch the minority bleeding hearts lay blame at the police & Government in handling these matters.

18 years old?
I know what I was doing at 18!! (Definately NOT taking on cops with a knife!)
Has it been reported if this "kid" was born here?
I just wonder how much of the so call "radicalisation" is really disenfranchised youth? No job prospects, No ambitions, No positives that they can envisage..
And their "out" is this Islam State madness?
I am NOT excusing ANY of this barbaric stupidity..
But, we have to ask ourselves WHY the bloody hell these kids (yes KIDS!) are resorting to this crap in, what we believe, to be the best country on earth?

The scary thing is it just shows how completely out of their mind these radicals are...at 18 some kid from Melbourne is basically willing to commit suicide. Hard to believe.

Wouldn't be surprised if even younger kids become involved in terrorism.

The IS groups appear to be very influential. Very worrying.

This is quite frightening to see that it has happened, I hope the good police officers keeping the public safe may recover fast and fully, and let this be a warning to any other supporters of terror acts that it isn't acceptable outside of their countries

Very well put.

I think this is part of the answer, radicalisation through disenfranchisation.

Youth / young men looking for somewhere / someone to help them belong and feel valued.

The choice is ultimately barbaric and plain crazy.

I hope the cops recover with no backlash what so ever, from work or the public. If someone started stabbing me with a knife I'd expect to be able to use what ever means I have available to defend myself. One of my concerns is a government reaction with a quick squeeze of our basic rights.

What we also need to do is support our Australian Muslims.. To not draw a line between "us and them"
I believe 99.9% of Australian Muslims abhor what's happening!
How many of us have Muslim neighbours in our street, our suburb?
I have!.. And certainly not terrorists!
(Fully sic commo drivers, but great blokes!)
Say gidday, smile at the lady in the burka at the supermarket..
We as, Australians need to display our "fair go" attitude now, more than ever!

I use to work in a place with a lot of Muslim employees, most of them were top blokes and those who weren't had nothing to do with their religious belief, I still catch up with a bunch of the boys now, 2 years after leaving the job. A few of them actually were a lot like a lot of Australian Christians I know as in they only went to mosque on "important" days and while they still followed the basis of their religion they let a lot go and enjoyed the Aussie relaxed way of life.

The few ruin it for the many, Muslims have been here a long time and its only since 911 they have really been on the radar. The ones who are out there taking to the streets and causing issues and holding signs saying things like "Death to Christians" need to be re-evaluated. The same would be true for any other religion, class etc doing the same thing.

The best way to put it is if you come here from any nation and want to force your belief, either cultural or religious, on the general population you really should rethink the country you have moved to. I wouldn't move to the USA and expect them to adjust to my belief, I accept their culture or leave.

He got what was coming. I hope his 72 virgins turn out to be eunuchs and drag queens.

But, as usual the bleeding heart left wing brigade say last weeks "high alert and police raids" were nothing but a stunt to distract people from the budget.

What will it take for some people wake up and accept there is a real danger from these "terrorists"?

I wish the coppers a speedy recovery.

How about Muslims and their leadership show some leadership. Instead they protest about being victimized, wave vile banners about beheading people.

When was the last time they protested against the radicals, NEVER, I wonder why?

I heard one report on the wireless saying some Muslim leaders want a full investigation as it appears he was actually running away when he was shot.

Personally I don't think it matters, you take a knife to a copper you gotta expect them to react forcefully.
Sounds like one of them has stomach throat and head wounds, and is the more seriously injured of the two. Hope they both make a full recovery and this doesn't ruin their futures.

I for one do not feel threatened at all in regards to Australia's safety, if you want to live in fear that's your choice.

There are some aspects of this incident that do not make any sense.
He was allegedly on a suspects list, why not arrest him?
He was such a threat his passport was confiscated, why is he roaming free?
He was asked to attend the Police station, why did the officers meet him outside?
It's alleged he was going to behead, why no real mention of what weapons were in his possession?
Two officer against one and they got that badly injured, not really believable.
800 Police were used to raid homes and his wasn't one of them, why not?
Hundreds of homes and people raided, 15 arrested and one charged. Not a good strike rate.

Should the government not bother? Just business as usual.

The issue is the constant chipping away of freedom sold to us as safety concerns. We are currently at the pointy end of the wedge.

The government want you to believe that the threat is far, far worse than it is and in return you should support the introduction of these little bills.

Don't tell me there is nothing to fear, Queensland is a perfect example of a politician going mad. Even the UN has condemned Newmans rule.
