meh. saw them in the states and they are now just a suv, explorer of old could go off roadish.
this new one looks a little soft. the new everest on the other hand can go off road and competently. |

The white one looks good, That's about it.
All I use to want was one of the last Explorers that were sold in Australia. Now I think I'd prefer an Everest over a new Explorer. |

I would take the Everest, but wish the engine options included the 3.0 V6 diesel with 202 kw / 600 Nm and the 2.7 EcoBoost with 240 kw / 508 Nm. 8 speed ZF would be nice too.

I dont know if 8 speed is a good thing or not, no doubt it would be good in a drag race, but i can imagine it hunting around a bit for the right cog in certain situations ?

Coming from a country town these type of vehicles are a laugh, whats the point of them?? That looks like it would have more trouble getting up my driveway than my lowered ba xr6 does.

New exploder looks better than any Territory could ever have wished, but looks are subjective.
Id buy one, white with 3.5TT EcoBoost. Lower it like one above.

The problem with this thread is that nobody has yet seen the Everest in Australia. I'd say that if it's designed by the Ford Australia engineers it's probably going to be much better than anything from the USA. I reckon (hope) the Everest is going to be something that Ford will finally be able to challenge the ubiquitous Prado with.
Second thing is, stop bringing the damn Territory into it. The Territory is a crossover. The average self-respecting Territory owner isn't going to be seen dead in an Explorer and probably not in an Everest either because they're both a different class of vehicle. The (cough) "replacement" for the Territory is the Edge. I wish the Edge was designed in Australia too. I think the front-wheel drive is going to work against it being a true replacement for Territory and it may be just another Kluger-barge. But let's wait for the opportunity to drive. In the meantime, other rear-wheeler (rear-wheel based) crossovers are the only vehicles to offer a Territory alternative and these are the BMW X3 and probably the Volvo XC70 (I don't think Merc has an exact equivalent?). The problem is that these are in the Titanium class (even more expensive) and that leaves the majority of Territory owners up the creek without a paddle. It seems difficult to get this message across. If I see another Explorer thread I think I'll explode(r). |

Sorry for bringing the Territory back into this thread again, but I for one hope the rear wheel drive Everest makes it here,
I'll use it to replace my RWD diesel Territory Titanium. http://www.northernstar.com.au/news/...ights/2460730/ The Everest will be available in 4WD and RWD, with a range of three engines - a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol EcoBoost, a 2.2-litre four-cylinder Duratorq diesel and the Ranger's mighty 3.2-litre five-cylinder Duratorq diesel - and a choice of either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.

The Explorer is exactly the same type of vehicle as Territory, just based on a larger car platform and with transverse engines. XC70 is transverse too so you're only going to see longitudinal layouts in premium cars

That pretty-well leaves the X3 as the only alternative to a Territory Titanium. I checked the Volvo pricing and in any case it's moving beyond the financial range. The BMW is still in the financial ballpark, unless you go in for heavy optioning (which it doesn't actually need).
If Everest is available in RWD then it might collect part of the Territory market, but if BMW marketing strategy is anything to go by, the 2WD (RWD) versions aren't sold in Australia because they reckon Australians want AWD for that type of car. Haven't the majority of Territory sales over the years been AWD too? I guess we'll see with the Everest. On paper I'd certainly prefer the Everest over Explorer. |

Is it a driver's car like the Territory and X3?
The Americans think we're like them but we're not. They don't understand how we drive. They produce slush-buckets or drive similar from Toyota etc. I'd be deeply sceptical of any car designed in America. The Everest has something going for it if it's designed in Australia. The Explorer and Edge don't. I've never heard a good word about the driving pleasure and primary safety of Jeeps. Even if they're rear-wheel based, I don't think they're a qualitative substitute for Territory. |

More the X3 now - closer to Territory size, drivability and price. X5 has got bigger and taken off in the price direction of Range Rover.
