This is my car on Tuesday morning I got caught in a flash flood coming home from work - the water for maybe an hour was this deep - at the moment she's in a holding yard waiting for an insurance assessor to look at her - what do you think my chances are of getting her back on the road ? as I'm hoping they won't write her off

I don't like your chances of getting it back.

Apart from the electrics, & the potential for problems there, you have to consider the sills, pillar cavities, bearings, gearbox (most have a breather) & the interior....including inside the doors. Not to mention nuts, bolts, washers & screws etc.
If ALL of the above are affected, it could easily cost 10G's to have a pro fix it, even then it would be going from workshop to workshop for months. Renewed electrics from the water mark down, full interior strip...& the rest! Then corrosion will start on any & every bit of untreated metal. Trust me, best advice...YOU DON'T WANT IT BACK!!! Insurers won't treat it like a family member unfortunately. It's just another car to them. Yes they will sympathize with you, but back at the office they'll make the call regardless. Get paid & let the insurer use it as a parts car. Seriously I had a similar thing happen a few months ago. My car, whilst parked at a boat ramp (which was actually a beach too) was "dipped" in 7" of salt water. (the tide came in whilst I was out in the boat, & an unexpected overly high tide, pushed by strong winds, caught about 15 vehicles on low ground) Water level was half way up the sills. Lucky I came back in the boat when I did. 3 more inches of water & it would have been declared "Dead at the scene" !!! A few rinses & some severe rust inhibiting measures have ensured my cars survival, without the need for an insurers intervention. |

In most cases, inundation by water will fill up certain cavities, but those spaces won't allow the water back out.
This causes corrosion (that can't be seen) & can lead to mold & bad odours inside. |

I'm sure it didn't help that you appear to have left the passenger side window open as well

When the water comes up, it doesn't take long for you to get stuck in the middle. Can't go forward, can't go backwards. But people who just think, "She'll be right" only have themselves to blame.
Looks like the former to me.

Did the car stall? Or did you just stop because of the water danger?

Definately worth keeping away from the roads.

Agreed, you don't want it back.
On the bright side you can offer an informed opinion as to whether they handle like a boat. |

I'm not sure the op came here for all the criticism. We could try giving people the benefit of the doubt, none of us was there or knows what happened. OP says flash flooding, we know how bad the weather was, why don't we leave it there?

LOL, You can't post a photo of your car over the rims in water and not have questions asked as to how it ended up like that?

Why not, it was covered in the very first post "caught in flash flooding".
Even if that's not 100% correct it's clear that the event has been quite upsetting for the owner so why would we try to rub their face in it?
