classic carlectables 1/18 XY GS

Just saw a full page advert in Unique cars mag for classic carlectables 1/18 XY GS Fairmont. Being a GS owner I was pretty keen to get one but now im not so sure as there is so many things wrong with the detail on the car ie XW mirrors, rear hubcaps on the front, Cleveland engine when its supposed to be a 302, no wheel arch moulds, XW GT bonnet pins and the stainless trim around the windows painted grey. Pretty disappointed.

Wow, I am surprised there are so many errors given the prices asked for these collectable model cars. I make and sell illustrated car posters and if I get details like that wrong, the enthusiasts are very quick to point out any errors even if they aren't interested in buying one and/or will supply a fixed reprint at my cost. So I've learnt to take the small details very seriously!

Edit: Is it possible they have reused parts from another model to try and save costs? Kind of sounds like it.

Well id say that they have just used up parts from other models, but also haven't done there home work either, because they could have used a Windsor for example out of the XR GT they have done or just put a 351 badge on the guard and even used the chrome mirrors of the XR/XT. Don't think ill put up the cash for a model that is not correct. Also notice from the brochure it has a GT fuel cap too.

they seem to do the Holden stuff more accurate, I guess they must like the GM stuff better.

It seems they don't do too much of their homework on some models, which is a pity for the money you pay.

Probably put together in China on instructions from Aus but the Chinese don't always do what you want.

The only aussie car models that look good are the race cars because the war paint does a good job of disguising all the errors.

Even if some of the parts are wrong, the detailing looks very good.

mitch I agree, xy with xw trim and mirrors. out of curiosity whats the rrp?! xw bonnet pins also.nice tread on the aquajets! best keep the bonnet down and stick some woollen seat covers in it?!

Bugga. I was so excited I ordered without seeing the final product. A GS for the first time. Anyone wrecking a 1:18 scale 2V Windsor?

OK, I'll ask it...

What's wrong with an XY having a Cleveland in it...? Why would it have to be a Windsor...? A friend who had an XYGT also had an XY Fairmont and it had a 302 Clevo in it, all factory original.

As for the "GT filler cap"...well, given the times and the way back then the dealer would just say "Sure, tick any damn thing you like on the option sheet...we'll do it", then I'm surprised any two were ever alike to be able to difinitvely say "This is exactly what an ABC is supposed to look like!"...

Only things I could notice was the mirrors looked to be from a later model Falcon, and the grill looked...somehow...odd.
Oh...and from many years of making models, if you're trying to go for outstanding realism I think it's always a mistake to try and paint a model car with metallic...the metalflake is never to scale and if you imagined it scaled up as if on a real car the flakes would be the size of your thumbnail...

302 Clevo was new for XA because it was cheaper to manufacture here in Oz than importing the Windsor??? I have never heard of a factory 302C pre XA...

Interestingly,on the flyer/advertisement in Express's post the model doesn't have bonnet pins,appears to have chrome wheel covers and the door window frames are black,which all looks half decent.
If I had ordered the model based on that and then got something different I wouldn't be too happy.

That pic does look better, but no Fairmont badging or engine size badging. Has blacked out GT tail lights, but the mirrors are closer to the XY tear drop type and the front hubcap looks more like the real deal

Atleast we wont have to worry about the Classic Carlectables 1/18 2017 Falcon being incorrect.
